The English press of Pakistan it is my belief is a serious one compared to Urdu press. The quality of English press here is that it does not indulge in publishing cheap scandals just to increase cheap popularity or sale. Urdu press mostly lives on cheap scandals and stores, though some have to adopt this police perforce. Hence is the reason I find words of English press give balanced view and food for thought. One such English newspapers in its Editorial last month stated whatever may it mean the moderated enlightenment, Pakistan a much respected member of international community, Pakistan can now contact any country (General’s personal level of course only) etc but facts were people are dying due to lack of pure drinking water. The same newspaper on the issue of faulty internet submarine line wrote an editorial. It started saying that it will make more than the usual rhetoric of “Pakistan shining” by the prime minister and president to get potential investors think again. It said while PTCL spokesman was saying on Monday that the location of fault had been discovered yesterday, the president of the PTCL was informing the media in Karachi that the fault finding ship from Dubai had not raced the fault definitely. The editorial further added that I. Tech Minister was something else on the issue. This example shows how justified the people of the country are today not believing on what rulers say and trust what BBC says. But the best and most meaningful wording used was by a foreign newspaper which speaks a lot. Daily Khaleej Times Dubai covering up this fault on 3.7.2005 stated Pakistan was still cut off from the world through internet. It added a small line which was the main gist of it saying “so far none from the international community has come forward to help Pakistan” in this regard. Pakistan is a highly respected member of international community today!!!
