Do you think that we feel less or more lonely because of internet? Is it true that people who are lonely and shy in real life use internet more for chatting,discussion,online conversations, social networking sites,etc as compared to those who are more social and bold in real life? Do people use internet as social escape or to get more social?

Loneliness is a state of mind. More than anything. You can be in a group of 30 people and still feel alone. The internet doesn't affect it as you are still in your room alone typing on a PC. But it affects ones notion of being alone.
The internet allows us to connect with like minded people and groups we can socialize with. However it destroys basic concepts like communication, intimacy (I am not talking of sexual or relationship, but just a friends hanging out), basic social skills really.
There is a whole world out there and if I wasn't stuck in Darfur I would never be on the PC or any internet site again!

waterfall hun.. some people are not shy , in fact can be a social butterfly but still have a social cyber community as part of their repetoire of friends… surely u cant be saying everyone on GS is sad and lonely …far from it sweets… I guess as we spend more and more time on the net .. its easy to connect to people online.. its up to the individual just how much importance they place on the social cyber scene…

its more of an addiction than anything else coz its so easy to get intouch with "cyber" friends than real life ones...and, besides, i think one can express himself herself better without muchh restrictions..i, for one, do NOT like to cross the "limit" :)

I use the Internet for socializing with desis because
1). I can always close the window
2). Better than going to dawats that START at 10 pm when I have to be at work at 6 am
3). Better alternative than going out for shots with coworkers as I'd like to preserve liver function
if there were better venues to meet desis here, I'd go.
Even the religious places here have done a poor job with establishing networking opportunities. So you just go to house parties and make more friends that way. I'd do that but they all throw late night dawats and it doesn't work for my schedule. And then you just end up being part of a clique.

First of all I love your User Title " Kanch ke Guria"
Some definetly do , like you will see their comments , style of expression and the way they bring things behind a strange User ID from anonymious location.
They will express their those feelings , they wont express to their friends in their social Networks or other social circles.
But many have other reasons for being active on cyber networks one of them is Like PCG points , she deems herself , confortable with socializing on Virtual social networks plus it does not affect her schedule.
For me myself I would say , being in huge Desi community here in UAE , i have very little access to Paki: communities due to working timings and daily commute etc.
Plus I have more variety of Paki people who belongs to Pk by origin but have grown in other parts of world hence have varity of lovely Desis.
Secondly, socailizing character is inheritely given to every men/women , and we were in thurst for it , now technology have brought us together, which definetly people are utilizing.
