International spies in Pakistan

Norweigian head of internal security has resigned after reports emerged of their spies operating in Pakistan. It seems as if Pakistan has become favorite location of spies from over the world. What can be said of our intelligence chief, when he couldnt find the courage to resign after bigger blunders than this, this is nothing for them. According to Rahman Malik some foreign intelligence operatives were arrested in balochistan as well, but he has decided not to spill the beans as to whom they were.

I’ll post the article related to this topic later.

Hhmm they probably searching for salmon fish market in Pakistan:chupki:

re: International spies in Pakistan

Salmon fish in central and northern Pakistan?

Our spies have failed in improving our internal security ( terrorists conduct bomb blasts at will), balochistan situation and it's their responsibility to keep an eye on the foreigners (they failed in this aspect too), if this wasnt disclosed by the norweigians I don't think we would have ever have known about it.

**ISLAMABAD: ****Under fire, the interior minister ducked, and held the intelligence agencies responsible for the presence of Norwegian spies in Pakistan.

**

**Rehman Malik, responding to a point of order raised by fellow Pakistan Peoples Party senator Raza Rabbani, admitted to the upper house of parliament that he had no information on the presence of Norwegian spies in the country.

**
**The minister, however, evaded responsibility for the lapse, saying information about spies and their activities does not come under his ministry but under the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

**
“It’s the responsibility of the ISI and IB to keep an eye on suspicious movements since they have the authority,” the minister said.

“They don’t work under the ministry of interior … [but] they are subservient to the prime minister administratively,” Malik said, adding that he will inquire the matter and report back to the house on a priority basis.

The minister attempted to deflect any responsibility for the incident.

“We all know that spies never seek approvals for their activities from the country where they are based. We can only check them through sharp intelligence,” Malik said.

**He added that forces have arrested some suspicious foreigners, and confirmed spies, from Baluchistan and Dera Ismail Khan.

**
“Foreigners and diplomats have been strictly directed to avoid travelling to southern parts of Pakistan, Balochistan and sensitive areas without informing, and prior approval of, the interior ministry,” he added.

Malik was responding to questions raised by Senator Rabbani regarding recent reports on the presence of Norwegian spies in Pakistan.

“We want to know if there is an existing accord with Norway to permit their spies in Pakistan,” Rabbani asked.

Norwegian spies

January 21, 2012 | 2 Comments

**The news that the head of Norway’s internal security, the PST, Janne Kristiansen, had resigned soon after she disclosed to a parliamentary body that its spies were operating in Pakistan, shows a number of things. First, that parliamentary oversight as well as government supervision was so strong that Madam Kristiansen could not lie. Second, that even an apparently benign country like Norway had agents in Pakistan, and that too maintained by its military.
**
It must be remembered that Norway has troops as part of the Isaf, and thus a foothold in the region allowing its ‘J’ Service a presence here. It should be noted that the ‘J’ Service, even if a designated friendly intelligence service, has no business having agents in Pakistan. However, having such agents have not earned the ire of our ISI, who have professed to being informed of the presence of such agents.

Ms Kristiansen, it may be remembered, was already under fire because of the failure to detect the Christian extremist who killed 77 people in July.
The revelation of the presence of these agents in Pakistan should not only encourage the Pakistani government to instruct the ISI to obtain information from Norway but also other Isaf members.

Pakistan must have a very cautious approach, towards all foreigners, for their own safety. This is a possibility with the German and the Italian kidnapped from Multan’s Qasim Bela area on Thursday, while working for a German NGO among neighbouring Muzaffargarh’s flood victims.

To avoid such incidents from spreading, the government must tighten its control and ensure that agents who are present in the country with the permission of the authorities are identified and NGO workers not mistaken for anti-Pakistan forces.

It also requires examination why this knowledge came to Pakistan through testimony before Norwegian Parliament rather than its own agencies. That will be another thing the government and the agencies will have to answer for.

re: International spies in Pakistan

Even small countries like Norway can beat the ISI.

Why do we spend all our money on these agencies when even tiny countries are beating them??

It is time the ISI/Pak Army become professional soldiers, instead of spending their resources following politicians, and filling their pockets.

:cb: Good one!

Re: International spies in Pakistan

Pakistan used to be a destination of choice for jihadis from around the world in the 1990’s, now it seems its the number 1 destination for spies as well…

Colonel among three Germans held

**PESHAWAR: A house located in University Town was raided on Saturday and three German citizens were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in ‘suspicious activities’, police said.

****The suspects, who were interviewed after reports they were living in the house on the Park Lane Street illegally, failed to produce documents validating their stay in Pakistan.

They were identified as Curtain Wild, a colonel in German army who has spent time in Afghanistan and Kosovo, Lauren and Rhodwolf Smith.

**An official said statements of the three men did not match with each other. First they claimed to be associated with a non-governmental organisation but later they said they were staff of the German embassy living in Peshawar.

The official said four Pakistanis, who were working for the Germans, had also been held. They included two security guards whose services had been acquired without informing the police.

“They said they were deputed by their embassy to keep an eye on the German-funded development projects but they had no documentary proof to this effect,” the official said.

The Germans came to Peshawar during the Soviet war in Afghanistan more than 30 years ago, he said, adding the house was raided after police came to know about their suspicious activities.

The official would not give details about the foreigners’ activities but said they used to carry out their work on a rotation basis in the garb of NGOs. He said the foreigners previously lived in a house on Jamaluddin Afghani Road and moved to Park Lane about a year ago.

Talking to reporters, Cantonment Circle SP Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed said police maintained record of all foreigners and the NGOs but the three Germans had not informed them about their stay nor did they seek any security.

He said they had opened a ‘German Liaison Office’ in the building which was being used as the office-cum-residence. He said the office had been sealed and the suspects had been taken to Islamabad for interrogation.

The official said police came to know about their illegal stay when security agencies started enlisting foreigners and NGO workers living in the city. “We have taken copies of their passports and investigation is under way,” the SP said.

Re: International spies in Pakistan

Of course, only Raymond Davis came under his ministry as he was American, spies from other countries around the world fall under ISI :hehe:

What a shame that ISI is more active in political business than actually doing its job.

Re: International spies in Pakistan

I would say countries with KNOWN resources in pakistan include US,UK,China,Iran,India,Afghanistan,Saudi Arabia..
coz most of them are stake holders in pakistan..like doing deals for NS...BB..MUSH..bla bla

other reason could be..the Jihad export. To the world it appears all religious fanatics get training from our borders so they have to keep their eyes here..

German spies ordered Pak Army uniforms in Peshawar: sources

**
PESHAWAR: Sources Thursday revealed that a trio of German nationals, apprehended on Jan 21 in Peshawar, was about to receive a number of Pakistan Army uniforms for which they had placed an order in the local market some days back, Geo News reported.

Moreover, the some traditional ladies’ full-length outer garments (burqas) have also been recovered from their residence.
**

The alleged German spies namely Rolf Schmidt, Kristen Wild, and Lorenz had been living in Peshawar since 1981 and shifted to a bungalow at Parklane a year ago.

Police also found receipt of uniform order as well.

According to sources the foreigners had conveyed negative reports about Pakistan to Bonn Conference held in Germany last year to discuss future of Afghanistan after Nato pullout.

Intelligence agencies copped them in a raid at their house on Jan 21, they have been sent to German embassy as they could not provide any documents mandatory for staying in Pakistan.
