To many people the mere mention of Pakistan conjures up visions of bemedaled generals, gun-toting militants and perhaps the mountain top hiding place of Osama bin Laden. The country is suffering from chaos and lawlessness mainly by actions and omission of General Musharraf and allies like MQM party in Karachi.
The main reason for Pakistan’s economic improvement since Musharraf came to power is $10 billion in aid United Staes has given and facilitated in $38 billion outstanding loan freezing, not any policies of Musharaf and his technocrat Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
Perception of Pakistan globally is the worst amongst the nations. While Mr Bush often several times praised Musharaf as America’s friend, never once has acknowledged Pakistan as their ally.
While Pakistan has become experimental play ground for Musharaf the lives and future of 160 million seems totally isolated from the rest of the world.
humanist, which world are you talking about. I have recently met Malaysians, Indonesians, Thais, Chinese, Singaporeans, Saudis, Iraqis, Sudanis and all think Musharraf is doing a better job than the corrupt politicians before. All acknowledge the better outlook of Pakistan abroad and consider Pakistan as an investment opportunity. All consider the need to nab the fanatics with an Iron hand. Probably, you are coming in contact with the low lives of their own countries, who while being failures in life themselves think of putting the blame on others and justify taking revenge from the innocent.

I am in a foreign university where there are lot of people from gulf state and they really think that Pakistan, a nuclear nation, is going the hill and there is a real concern for the stability of Pakistan..
never have we got a more confused foreign policy then now... even recently on the jirga our prime minister goes and says that Taliban is the internal issue of Afghanistan and two days later our President says that Taliban are using Pakistan... come on yaar, r u really a Pakistani... even traitors r not that anti patriotic...
Its really depressing... No one has projected more badly the image of Pakistan then our President.... i think even India couldn't have thought of so many ways to defame Pakistan then this President has done...
How convinenetly people forget billions Pak has lost for war on terror... US AID ..LOL... don't know what planet people live on... May be they should be fed soyabean diet to jog their memory about our soyabean friendship with our soyabean friend.. What next, bumper crop due to amreekan aid...

The aid the US has given, and the loan freezes, would not impact the the government private sector that accounts for our exports. And yet Pakistan's exports have doubled under Musharraf and Aziz's rule.
Even the aid and loan freezes themselves have come as a result of Musharaf and Aziz's policies - their diplomatic policies.
Similarly, their economic policies have encouraged credit rating agencies to up-rate Pakistan, drawing in foreign private sector investment into Pakistan.
The export doubling is not due to Musharraf or Aziz. It is due to the EU giving us market quota's below cost price to aid us in our war on terror. This was not negotiated it was handed over to us in 2002. That is why India took us to the WTO over the matter twice.
Additionally our exports have increased in agriculture and not in industrial or services sectors. Any economist looking at our feudalistic system would note right away that is the worst way to develop ones economy.
Lastly lets not fall into the propaganda that the policies affected our rescheduling. Sept 11th affected that. Look at our economic status from 1999 to Sept 11th 2001. And then look it afterwards. 2 and a half years of economic polices did nothing. What did help our rescheduling was the US attack on Afghanistan.
