Is there any Pakistani Drama, who got international award, please give name. I don’t know if there is any. Why Pakistani Dramas are not getting internationaln awards. What are the reasons? We have good directors like Mehreen Jabbar, good writter like Umera Ahmed then where is the main problem. Is our drama not according to the international standards?
Re: International Awards to Pakistani Drama
Television is not generally regarded as a medium for fine artistic expression. Pakistani television productions are an anomaly on the global scene where television programming generally revolves around soap operas and other content which really doesn't have much depth. However, they do have the Emmies in the US -- one place where there is some high quality TV (primarily HBO and AMC stuff though), but I doubt if they consider international programming for that.
If you have any doubts about what I'm saying, do check out clips of Spanish telenovelas which are a rage in Latin America, and the oft-quoted terrible Indian soaps. Truly atrocious stuff.
Re: International Awards to Pakistani Drama
What about UK, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Autralia, Russia etc I thing they have quality programes. Are they organize international awards?
Re: International Awards to Pakistani Drama
Our drama has gone much below even Pakistani standards of 70s and 80s.
Adopted storyline from cheap novels, dialogs from western sitcoms and cinematography from Indian soaps, what do you expect?
Re: International Awards to Pakistani Drama
But there are good Dramas also, not all of them are bad. Like Daam is a standard drama. Dohara was a standard drama. What is the criteria to get the international awards.
Our actors are also great. Why they did not recieve international awards. We have Abid Ali, Firdos Jamal, Khayam Sarhadi, Shakeel, Ayub Khoso etc.
Re: International Awards to Pakistani Drama
This deal about cinematography borrowed from indian soaps is pure bull...photography is rarely ever borrowed, the technique used for soap operas is similar the world over with a few variation here and there. Also note that Bollywood rehashes practically every other hollywood film, world over ideas go back and forth, and from what I have seen so far Pakistani dramas are doing very well with a lot of their storylines being from famous Urdu novels. The quality has gone dramatically up. Serials like Daam, Doraha, MonoSalwa, Lahasil and so many more from the last few years are quality productions.
The negativity is so astounding.
Having said that, television work is rarely considered for critical acclaim/awards etc. That's just a problem with television, it's always overshadowed by cinema which is where serious storytelling takes place. The opposite is true in Pakistan where cinema is really a medium for the illiterate to express themselves.
Re: International Awards to Pakistani Drama
There were quite a few old pakistani dramas who won international awards like Jhok Sayal and Guriya.
It's quite hard to create drama wether in films or tv(in our case) as you need a good combination of actors and writers which we used to have.
What we 're doing nowadays is not worthy of any mention let alone an award. They're extremely cheesy and melodramatic plays. even the overhyped plays like Doraha have nothing new to offer in terms of storyline and content. All they offer is pessimism and dull cliched characters same old zalim saas, poor guy rich girl(vice versa) happy marriage marred by in laws. same old melodrama. no entertainment only depression.yawn
