Intermittent Fasting

Has anyone heard of this or tried this for weight loss? I saw a friend of a friend post about losing 50 lbs over the course of 7 months by intermittent fasting (mostly changing what she eats and when with minimal exercise/gym time). she looks great! there is lots of articles on it in google, but i want to know if anyone has tried it first hand and if they can share their experience or knowledge.

thanks

Re: Intermittent Fasting

Yes. I have personally tried intermittent fasting.

I had some health issues, was taking a steriod which was told to make me gain weight.
I did intermittent fasting for a month, and it helped me loose weight EVEN while i was on steriod. But, during that one month, i ONLY ate healthy. No simple carbs, no junk.

Good Luck.

Re: Intermittent Fasting

^ can you please share your routine and meal plan? did you fast every other day or two days out of the week? did you incorporate any exercise or supplements/vitamins?

Re: Intermittent Fasting

For the very first month, i followed a very strict routine.

I used to eat from 1:00 PM to 8:00 pm. Not before that, not after that. I followed it everyday for the first month.
I used to eat 2-3 boiled eggs with no-sugar tea at 1:00. It was easy because i like eggs. Then after 1 hour i used to eat whatever curry was made, with salad. Just mix chicken/meat/beans etc with salad and eat that.
Then for dinner, i did the same as lunch.

In between i would take tea or green tea only. The only additional calories that i took was 2 glass of fresh juice everyday, i couldnt avoid it because i was having a health issue. I used to dine out too, but i used to eat only stakes or bbq. No bread, No simple carbohydrates.

In addition to all this, i used to do any exercise twice a week, PLUS i used to do treadmil for atleast 20 min EVERYDAY.

It sounds like a lot, but trust me its pretty easy when you are doing it. I was very strict on this schedule because i was told about the weight gain side effect of one steriod which i was taking.

I lost 5 kg's in 1 month.

After that, i got easy on myself, i would take a biscuit sometime, put sugar in tea, eat bread sometimes. But not everyday.

I want to return to intermittent fasting as people say it has amazing health benefits as well, apart from weight loss.

For a normal person, you can eat what you want, keeping a window of 6-8 hours. Include some exercise or walk, and you should be fine.

Good Luck, and its worth trying. Hope that helps.

Re: Intermittent Fasting

and no, i didnt take any vitamins or supplements.

Re: Intermittent Fasting

how about medicine induced weight gain? any ideas as to how to get rid of the extra pounds? :hmmm:

Re: Intermittent Fasting

double posting...sorry! :(

Re: Intermittent Fasting

KK,

well honestly telling, Intermittent fasting helped me with steriod induced weight gain. So hopefully, it would help with medicine induced weight gain. My mom gained a lot of weight because of her medicines, i yet have to test it on her. But, she's diabetic as well, so i dont know if she would be able to cope with the eating hours of intermittent fasting.

@nabz here is what I just read and thought to share:

3 Great Reasons Why Intermittent Fasting Is A Good Idea!

You may not have heard of intermittent fasting, and so you may not know why it can and should be a part of your workout and fat loss plan. Intermittent fasting is the practice of abstaining from all but water for a period of usually 24 hours to help with the goals associated with fat loss and weight loss in general. The way in which it helps in this arena is by cutting out a full days caloric intake, while still being able to maintain a full workout schedule. Let’s look at three main reasons I believe that intermittent fasting is a good idea for anyone serious about fat loss and muscle building!

The primary reason I’m fond of a workout plan that involves intermittent fasting is that it promotes maximum fat loss. Most people employ these types of fasts two days a week while working out, and this means they are effectively cutting out a full two days caloric intake from their weekly consumption. This combined with your workout can and does have a dramatic effect on the pace at which you lose excess fat. By working out while doing these fasts, you are attacking your goals with a two-edged sword, slashing it from both ends of the spectrum.

The second reason would be that this type of fasting allows you to maintain a moderate to intense workout load while still maintaining your energy and metabolism. Many people think that fasting drains both of these aspects, and while that is true for other, particularly longer fasts, for intermittent fasting the opposite has proven to be the case. You often have more energy and a higher metabolism while engaged in this type of fasting, making it the best of both worlds. Many other fasts are so debilitating that you are left at the end of the day so drained you are unable to do anything. Intermittent fasting is not like that at all.

The third reason why I believe intermittent fasting is a good practice to include in your workout plan is that it has beneficial aspects to it that are a little less easy to see, but of great benefit all the same. There is a cleansing of your system that takes place with any fast, as your body adjusts to less content being put into it. There are also undeniable psychological benefits, such as a very affirming sense of accomplishment that can help you in many areas of your life. Knowing that you are not a slave to food is a major part of that.

I’m a firm advocate of intermittent fasting as a way of enhancing your fat loss and workout routines. There is in my mind no faster way of getting maximum fat loss while still being able to handle a full workout load. Investigate it today. I think you might be surprised at the results you’ll come up with!
