Interfaith Dialogue (Angels and Jinn) - Islam and Chrsitianity

Re: Interfaith Dialogue (Angels and Jinn) - Islam and Chrsitianity

Well it may seem strange but something we believe in and as a matter of fact witness as well. Hard to describe though.

I think this topic has run its course, would you like to move on to the next topic?

Re: Interfaith Dialogue (Angels and Jinn) - Islam and Chrsitianity

In summary the agreement and disagreement between the two faiths:

The two faiths differ very much and mostly because of two issues: existence of Jinns and Satan being a Jinn.

Agreements

  1. Angels and other creatures exist from before Adam (post 17)

  2. Angels free from fe/male distinction (post 15)

  3. Satan try and misguide mankind into committing sin and not worshipping God (post 10)

Partial Agreement

  1. All the Angelic creatures were created. Difference is that Islam teach that Angels were created/made from light/noor (post 17) and Jinns created/made from smokeless flame of fire (post 18).
Christianity on other hand teach Angelic beings were created from nothing.

  2. Christianity has a much more involved doctrine w.r.t. demons and the exorcism when people are "possessed" by them than Islam.

Disagreements

  1. Islam teach Angels have no free will (post 10).
Christianity teach Angles have free will.

  2. Islam teach Jinns were created/made similar to mankind (families, offspring, free will, sin, can repent, etc.) (posts 12/19/35).
Christianity does not recognise beings such as Jinns exist.

  3. Islam teach Jinns have atributes such as invisibility, can change into animals, etc. (post 18).
Christianity believe all these stories are folk-lore similar to fairies and dwarfs.

  4. Islam teach non-Muslim Jinns are demons that can "possess" people (post 19/45) while some Muslims disagree (post 12).
Christianity believe demons to be fallen angels.

  5. Islam teach that Satan is a Jinn.
Christianity teach Satan is a fallen angel (angel that sinned).

  6. Islam teach that Satan sinned because he was dis-obedient to God and refused to bow before Adam (post 10/12).
Christianity teach that Satan instigated a rebellion against God with other angels by equalting himself with God.

  7. Islam teach various stories/incidents with interaction between mankind and Jinns and that they helped King Solomon with his building program (post 18).
Christianity teach that King Solomon did all of his building program by himself using Israelite semi-slave labour.

Special note: Whenever Christianity is mentioned, it also refers to Judaism. Both believe and teach the same about Angels, Satan and demons.

Re: Interfaith Dialogue (Angels and Jinn) - Islam and Chrsitianity

Maybe I’m useless but I looked at all 5 pages and could not see proper reference to exorcism of Jinns/demons. Anyway…

Yes, I believe so. Could you please start a new thread on your next topic “Scriptures”.

Re: Interfaith Dialogue (Angels and Jinn) - Islam and Chrsitianity

I think the summary is as best as can be. I will Inshallah! open a new thread about scriptures.

Let's not forget about the book of Enoch! I found this info on the web, it has to do with all the trouble that the Jinnat got into while vacationing on Earth....

"After this, many more stars fell from the heaven to join themselves with the first star. These stars took on the form of bulls actually becoming bulls themselves and then began to graze with the other cattle. There is no doubt that these stars represent Shemihazah (Semyaza) and the two hundred angels that jointly conspired with him and Asael (the first star). They all assume human form so that they might dwell among men. Soon after their metamorphoses, these stars which had transformed themselves into bulls were now engaging in acts of sexual intercourse with the heifers producing three different kinds of offspring. These offspring are symbolized as elephants, camels, and asses, representing the Giants, Naphilim, and Elioud. It was anciently taught that the Giants produced the Naphilim and they afterwards begat the Elioud. We are further taught that the cattle feared these unnatural offspring as they began to tear at the cattle and literally eat their flesh (1En. 86:3-6). As a result, all of the children of the earth trembled and began to flee from them. The children of the earth probably refer to all of the natural earth born creatures as becomes more clear in 1En. 7:5 where these devilish offspring began at first to eat the flesh of the birds, beasts, reptiles, and fishes."

hmmm… isn’t lucifer considered evil? i’m not sure but i think i have heard of the name lucifer being equated to evil in some movie or something :hmmm:

or is he the angel that takes the soul? pardon my ignorance but i’m not trying to insult or make fun of anyone

You are correct.

The Bible teach that Lucifer (also known as Satan or the Devil) was originnally created as an “arch-angel” and then rebelled against God.
