an interesting suggestion at least…i know it is not practical for Palestinians but nonetheless out of box…in the end i truly believe that Palestinians need to surprise israel with some out of box solution, which will put pressure on israel..otherwise they will remain like this for net 50 years
Re: Interesting suggestion for Israel Palestine Solution
Israel cant perpetually be the predominant power in the region forever. There will come a day when Israel shoots itself in the foot and history will repeat itself, where either the state will fall or is left much diminished. Of course, none of us will be alive to see it, but stronger nations then Israel have survived for centuries only to be eclipsed. 60 plus years of Israel's regional preeminence is, from a historical perspective, meaningless.
Re: Interesting suggestion for Israel Palestine Solution
They wouldn't do this because, as the article mentioned, Jews would no longer be the majority. This is the reason that Palestinian refugees are denied the right of return. Furthermore, moderates in Israel want a two state solution, but right wingers like the current administration have delusional dreams of a Greater Israel. They wish to force Palestinians into progressively smaller areas, a form of ethnic cleansing.
Re: Interesting suggestion for Israel Palestine Solution
Allow all Palestinians to return to Israel from Gaza, West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt and many other countries. Then give the Palestinians citizenship of Israel along with all the rights as citizens.
Re: Interesting suggestion for Israel Palestine Solution
Not surprising. France has traditionally been Pro-Palestine. For Germany it is the exact opposite. And that’s why you will never have a common EU position on this topic.
Austria has sided with France. I know, it’s not that significant but I live here so to me it is.
Re: Interesting suggestion for Israel Palestine Solution
I don't think that this is entirely unlikely.
The Oslo process, designed as a road map to achieve a two-state solution, is already dead. Neither side has been willing for years to make the compromises needed to move it forward; the only Israeli leader who was willing to do so was murdered by his own people. The Palestinians (both secular and Islamist) are quite rightly frustrated and realising that Oslo will not bring peace.
The Palestinian move for recognition will cement that, as it represents a violation of the Oslo accords. It also positions the Palestinian authority for one of two major game-changing decisions.
1) Leverage international bodies to restrain Israel's options, by bringing punitive measures into place against Israeli leaders who travel abroad. This will cause Israeli leaders to risk being treated like those of apartheid South Africa abroad, and force concessions as a result.
2) There may be punitive action from the USA and Israel to cut the money out from the PA's feet. The PA is already claiming that Arab nations will make up any shortfall; but in the past Abu Mazen has threatened to dissolve the PA if it is made financially unfeasible. This would terminate the Oslo process, force Israel to militarily re-occupy the West Bank, and cement Abu Mazen as a hero in the West Bank. The situation would revert to the violent 1980s.
Re: Interesting suggestion for Israel Palestine Solution
Hahahaha... Israel just made this a lot more likely. The new settlement expansion they are pushing following the Palestinian UN vote will divide the West Bank in two and prevent a contiguous Palestinian state.
This settlement was previously postponed at the request of the USA as it would make a two-state solution impossible.
