Interesting Social Experiment Conducted After Ottawa, Canada Shooting

Re: Interesting Social Experiment Conducted After Ottawa, Canada Shooting

Your room mate was prejudiced not racist lol. You don’t seem to understand what institutionalised racism means. Please read up on it.

Your personal experience or @hareem01’s husbands doesn’t really matter. Do you think it’s such a coincidence that the countries who have darker complexions are often labelled as “high risk”? Do you think it’s justifiable that it takes forever to process visas for Pakistani passport holders compared to other countries?

How about you guys read this?

I don’t believe in this fantasy world you live in. You want to talk about just your own personal experiences. I can give you a billion other peoples personal experiences of how racism and sexism does exist, but I don’t.

I don’t know why I should keep giving you links when you can look it up yourself.

“I am a black woman in a college town that is 93% white and has the other distinction of being the “rape capital” of America. At my job, I am paid minimum wage to deal with over 150 needy white locals and tourists a day. I could submit to this blog with every shift, but this particular interaction got to me. I was doing the usual customer interaction with an older white lady and ready to send her on her way when she out of the blue asks me “where were you raised?” I replied, “excuse me?” because I’m used to getting the ‘you don’t belong here’ statements as the more benign, “where are you from” questions. She again asked, “where were you born and raised?”For whatever reason, I told her, then asked why she asked me that and she said “well, I have an African-American granddaughter so when I meet African-American people around here, I like to know where they grew up.” I will probably get fired when she sheds her white tears complaining to my boss, because I then went off on her.
I said, “are you telling me that when you see a black face you ask them where they’re they’re from? You need to stop doing that. It’s rude and you can’t do that to people. I get that all the time here, ‘what are you doing here, where are you from’ —always reminding me that I don’t belong here because I’m not white.” She pulled from the White Excuses List and said that she didn’t intend to cause any offense and that’s not what she meant. Even though what I really wanted to say was that I feel sorry for your black granddaughter who is going to have a grandmother always reminding her that she doesn’t really belong to the family, all I could do was to hand her her paperwork and put back on the hospitality smile and tell her that if she needs anything to let me know”
