Say you’re interviewing a world renowned fashion designer.
They’re pretty bored of the generic interview questions.
Your job is to think of interesting questions you can ask them about themselves, fashion and the arts.
Their opinions on fair trade? But that could be potentially embarassing depending on who it is..
Their ideas on new types of fabrics and what 'qualities' ppl will be looking for in the future when buying clothes, apart from the obvious things like price, comfort etc.. eg we could get to a point where clothes will become disposable or perhaps ppl will be more into styles that can be worn in lots of different ways or will never crease or crumple..
Will the lines between work and casual become more blurred?
As the world is becoming smaller will there be more of a universal style of dress, leading to traditional/cultural styles becoming less and less common or perhaps even dying out?
Which trend(s) from the past would they like to see come back (if any) and which do they wish had never happened?
Their opinion on the huge replica/fakes industry.. will things become better or worse and is imitation really the sincerest form of flattery?
Brand names - will brand snobbery continue (obviously worded in a more polite way lol), will celebrity endorsements etc. continue to be popular and and will the pull of the celebrity continue to draw in more customers or will the average person tire of it? In terms of advertising will celebrities continue to be used to model top brands (unlike in the past when it was nearly always only models)?
If they had the chance to dress anyone who would it be.. who do they think is the most or least stylish person around?
Do they think there should be a minimum age/weight for catwalk models and why?
If they have kids would they like/prefer them to follow in their footsteps into the industry?
I had the fair trade one already. I think it should be interesting either way.
That cultural style vs common universal styling is a good one too!
Danke!
Which designer(s) are you going to be interviewing then?
I've got the chance to have a sitting with Sir Paul Smith tomorrow.
Its not really a formal interview but just a chance to talk to him for a bit.
The brief I received said 'Sir Paul is tired of generic interviews'.
I'm just going to have a conversation and throw in some of the questions suggested here/elsewhere and what I had thought of. Fingers crossed
Ask him stuff like whther he would consider designing for poor people in third world countries...or what scary moments he has had in life which has affected his designing careerr, or umm...something random like whether he likes cats or dogs.
It was AWESOME!
That dude is seriously one of the coolest seniors around.
Friendly, composed, funny and really down to earth. He was charming people left and right, fellas included.
He had flown in via Japan and we had a sit down at the Armani, Burj Khalifa.
Later on, we visited his boutique in MoE.
It was only about three odd hours but seriously, worth taking time off work.
I'll probably end up transcribing a bit of the talk, lets see!
All in all, major props to a legendary figure.
I wish you had told me you were meeting Paul Smith in your inital post. I would have changed me question to "Please can my bestest Milly have one of your messenger bags?"
Bit weird but I'd ask them how they think ppl will be dressing in 100 years time.. eg shorter hemlines, simpler styles, totally unisex clothing?
It is not so difficult the way people are dressing down and designers are designing and people becoming mader pider azzad/liberal , they will all be in birthday suit. There will be no fashion houses in 100 years.
