Interesting news from Pakistan:

Not one but two News that was reported today are very telling and reveling. If I am right in my thinking, it tells a lot about what is waiting in Pakistan and what one can expect.

First news shows that it seems BeNazir has learned the truth, seen the writing on the wall, and came out of her illusion. Second news tells that we might see emergency lasting not days but months, in Pakistan.

First News: BeNazir who is under house arrest asked President to quit office of President as well as Army chief. She is already in contact with Fazlur Rahman and now she is contacting NS, Qazi and Imran. She has also demanded that CJ should get reinstated … blah blah blah.

What can I see in this news? To me, BB after few days in Pakistan observing her supports and popularity, has realized that people are not with her and that future election holds a very bad result for her. She has also realized that she is in Pakistan (or let to come to Pakistan) to validate the next election, get into maligning election campaign where she is likely to lose all her credibility amongst Pakistanis, and in the end would end up with obvious political defeat. She realized that Musharraf government hold on people and their votes are very strong, both in Punjab and Sindh.

Hence realising that she cannot do anything alone or challenge present setup, especially PML(Q) in Punjab where most NA seats are located, she has started calling other political parties to join hand so that she can try to challenge the present political setup with their help. Before that, she was thinking that government party has no support and thus she was given free hand to come and help government and be partner in government, as she thought that government thinks she is very popular in Pakistan and could be help.

Second news: that I heard on GEO was regarding Musharraf interview with American newspaper today. Musharraf told American press that country is facing danger and to him it is more important to save the country than to worry about sham democracy. That to me means, emergency-cum-martial law is going to stay in Pakistan for sometime, most likely much after election, whatever world or politician in opposition would like.

I don’t know what would really happen, as I could be wrong. On the other hand, political situation and climate keep changing with time, and that means anything can happen suddenly. Still, that is what I conclude from both these news.

Re: Interesting news from Pakistan:

Today's IJT coming out against Imran Khan and his rally even though JI is behind Imran Khan shows, how much people are behind Present government, and why even JI could not bring people on the street. When JI cannot take people out on the street, very few parties can do that. BB realised that it is almost impossible to bring people on the street against government in big way, and that is the reason BB is trying to tango with anyone to get little support. This is my feeling, I could be wrong.

Very good analysis.

Re: Interesting news from Pakistan:

JI's are bunch of imbicelies. They'd do anything for fame and rule over sinkholes. AKs are their specialities. And bashing students, who celebrate valentine's day, the contribution on fighting terrorism. So why take them serious?

Re: Interesting news from Pakistan:

In my opinion Musharraf's continuance in office depends as President (at least) depends on three main domestic factors - 1. Continued Army support, 2. Opposition disunity, 3. Apathy/disinterest of the wider populous. External factors like American/west support are important, but not decisive in his survival, because it is quite clear now he ignored US/World warnings and imposed Emergency anyway.

Re: Interesting news from Pakistan:

An NYTimes article (yesterday or today) described how the US government is looking at other options besides Musharraf. They are looking at General Kayani, and the other Pakistani generals. I think they might try to cut off funding or at least threaten to cut it off. In hopes the the other generals, out of their greed for the money coming to the army, might oust Musharraf. But they're fearful that Kayani wont budge, because he's Musharraf's wing man.

Who knows. Maybe Kayani will be our next leader.

You can yell all you want about army and BB and everyone else blah blah blah. America is pulling the ropes, so if you think Musharraf is going to go...don't cheer too hard. Its not like it'll be because YOU wanted him out.
