Some facts bout ruthless Genghiz Khan (Temujin)

When Temujin was born, he held a blood clot in his fist, an omen that the wise men of his people said meant he was born to be great.

He was pledged to marry at the age of 9, and went to live with his wife-to-be's people. At the age of 12, his father died, and Temujin went back to his own tribe to claim the chieftanship, even though he had older brothers. His tribe refused to be led by a 12-year-old boy, so they abandoned him and his family alone in the countryside. They survived on berries and animals they could catch. During a hunting expedition, Temujin murdered his older brother.

Genghis Khan's chief wife, Borte, was captured and enslaved by raiders from an enemy tribe. Genghis got her back, but nine months after her captivity, she gave birth to their first son, so there has always been doubt about the oldest son, Jochi's paternity. Thus the claim of Genghis having so many descendants is also cast into doubt, since the vast majority of his descendants derive from Jochi.

Actually that bit is incorrect.

Temujin did not return to assume the role of chief himself. His Father had been assasinated and by right Temujins brother Bektar who was about 17 or 18 and a young married man, should have been Chief. But thier fathers best warrior a man named Targutai Euluk took control of the tribe by force and left the wife and Children of Yusugie to die in the wilderness.

Temujin at first supported Bektars role, the tribe did not support the children though becuase Targutai and his Henchmen would kill anyone that did not agree with thier choice.

Temujin shot Bektar while hunting becuase Bektar used to hide food from the rest of the fammily and let them starve. At least thats the story according to the secret History of the Mongols which was a Chinese manuscript written a few decades after the events.

Re: interesting historical facts

Nice info Faris :k:

BTW, there is this movie available on youtube, which portrayed this part of genghiz’s life in detail.

Re: interesting historical facts

TYes thats a film and like a lot of films before it, it came very close to the real story and then just as people like me were thinking we could relax it went all wrong. Is this the same edition of Mongol with the crazy heavily armoured twin sword wielding maniacs leading a crazy charge at the end? You dont need me to tell you that was not accurate. Still quality entertainment. :lajawab:

Re: interesting historical facts

I think I don't remember watching twin swords in this version

Re: interesting historical facts

Aah I'll watch the whole thing then... maybe this is a different version :)

Re: interesting historical facts

This shows us the romantic side of the most ferocious man in the history.

Re: interesting historical facts

Actual this dramatisation is really good and much closer to the historical and factually correct scenario. :k:

Re: interesting historical facts

some interesting facts about titanic:

The time interval from first sighting of the iceberg that sank the Titanic to impact was a little over 30 seconds.

The Titanic is about as long as the Empire State building is tall.

Originally, a lifeboat drill was scheduled to take place on board the Titanic on April 14, 1912 - the day the Titanic hit the iceberg. However, for an unknown reason, Captain Smith canceled the drill. Many believe that had the drill taken place, more lives could have been saved

The Titanic seemed to have everything on board, including its own newspaper. The Atlantic Daily Bulletin was printed every day on board the Titanic. The newspaper included news, advertisements, stock prices, horse-racing results, society gossip, and the day's menu.

Not only were there not enough lifeboats to save everyone on board, most of the lifeboats that were launched off the Titanic were not filled to capacity. For instance, the first lifeboat to launch, Lifeboat 7 from the starboard side) only carried 24 people, despite having a capacity of 65 (two additional people later transferred to Lifeboat 7 from Lifeboat 5). However, it was Lifeboat 1 that carried the fewest people - only seven crew and five passengers (a total of 12 people) despite having a capacity for 40.

When the Titanic began sending out distress signals, the Californian, rather than the Carpathia, was the closest ship; yet the Californian did not respond until it was much too late to help. At 12:45 a.m. on April 15, 1912, crew members on the Californian saw mysterious lights in the sky (the distress flares sent up from the Titanic) and woke up their captain to tell him about it. Unfortunately, the captain issued no orders. Since the ship's wireless operator had already gone to bed, the Californian was unaware of any distress signals from the Titanic until the morning, but by then the Carpathia had already picked up all the survivors. Many people believe that if the Californian had responded to the Titanic's pleas for help, many more lives could have been saved.

With the order for women and children first into the lifeboats, plus the knowledge that there were not enough lifeboats for everyone on board the Titanic to be saved, it is a bit surprising that two dogs made it into the lifeboats. Of the nine dogs on board the Titanic, the two that were rescued were a Pomeranian and a Pekinese.

In what is now an iconic image, the side view of the Titanic clearly shows four cream and black funnels. While three of these released the steam from the boilers, the fourth was just for show. The designers thought the ship would look more impressive with four funnels rather than three.

Re: interesting historical facts

I personally believe that every single human life is valuable. I can't understand while the west shows so much sympathy and concern over the death of people on a ship drowned a hundred years ago, why they don't have that much sympathy for hundreds of people being killed in Asian countries today due to greed of their rulers.

Re: interesting historical facts
