Mohammed (saww) was often insulted during his life time, but never did he allow the insulters to be killed. One famous example is someone who was even coming to kill him, then turned Muslim, if I remember well, that is. Instead of killing all who insulted him, Mohammed (saww) used arguments and logic to teach people his views and bring the message of Allah.

If even he himself didn’t allow killing, then I don’t see why we, his followers, should.

Seriously, I have yet to see anything more blasphemous then killing in the name of the Prophet (saw). It’s such a clear message from Muslims that even though he taught them how to react in this situation they were going to reject his teachings because their gairat was more important.
