Back to the initial question, my uncle married a shia and they agreed they would raise their children as plain Muslims, neither “shia” nor “sunni” - they’re primary source being the Quran. Since sects were created due to historical events, they don’t dwell on history at all.

If I was in an inter-sect marriage, I would just focus on the Quran. Teach my kids the fundamentals of Islam (i.e. five pillars, beliefs) and focus on those rather than obsessing over historical events and what happened/should have happened after the Prophet (pbuh)passed away.

Easier said than done. A simple example is do they teach their kids to pray with their hands clasped (sunni way) or byt heir sides (shia way)?

Which honourific do they teach their kids to use after the name of Hazrat Ali (ra) ? The term used is different for sunnis and shias.
