Common.
Some spouses change their sect by their own will to the partner’s one as time passes by.
Some are just carrying the title of a muslim or shia /sunni and raised the kids the same with no problem of what you know or not know and the sect is not a problem.
Some just give one-sided knowledge to the kid , depending who has the strong iman, to have the kid to be the same sect.
Some teach the kids both side of the sect and the kid is free to choose which to belonged, superficially it looks so thought the kid is pressured.
Know of a case where the, don’t-care-which-sect, parent straight forwardly said to his son in punjabi :-
“be whatever you want to be, wahabi sunni shia jevain teri marzi only when you can stand up on your own feet, matured enough, till then i am your guardian”
Just be there for your kid when he will ask you questions and don’t let him feel burden with all this sects. Give him a sense of belonging and not a drag in between of a shia/sunni family.
