Think of the kids:
Imagine how children would look from a marriage between a chinese and sri lankan? Or a black and someone from denmark?
I say if the skin tone is somewhat similar in origin, such as: Pakistani and White then the children will not be "distinguished" looking. Another example: An African American and someone from Guyana.
Ofcourse religon should be the same.

From what Ive read and heard, it seems one of the reasons our people are afraid/uncertain about marrying outside our race is because of rumors and what other people [specifically gossipy aunties] will say. I dont know who I will marry yet. And I definately dont know what race/religion he will be.

could be. a friend of mine is determined to only meet someone Christian [her religion] Sometimes, faith can play a big role.

as i mentioned in many threads similar to this one....
If you practice the Sunnah of our of beloved Prophet (SAW) and use Islam (and give your spouse the rights they have been given from Allah SWT) as the foundation of your marriage then your marriage will most definitely work...no matter what race or culture you or your spouse is from...given that both parties are Muslim.

How is that shallow? I'm just pointing out facts here. If two people from very different ethnicities produce a child, he/she will be very distinguished looking.
