Hi i need some opinions and views of people on Integration for my project.
so
What does integration means to you?
Is it good or bad thing?
Do you integrate? And if so why or why not.
What do you see the future being for asians and what can be done too support people of different backgrounds coming together.
can you plzzzzz reponse because i really need to know

Could you first clarify intergration please? Does it mean in the sense having friends of different backgrounds attendin each others family/cultural fuctions.
Or do you mean intergration as in inter-cultural marrying?

I am all for interacting with different backgrounds/cultures. There is so much to learn and also an advantage may be tolerance of different types of people.
Sometimes you hear things about various cultures and they may be stereotyped or simply exaggerated but if you have the opportuinty to talk to someone belonging to that particular culture or perhaps even attending their functions you may understand their reasons behind some of their traditions.
But at the same time intergartion should not come at the cost of losing your own culture ie dont go to the extent that you forget or give up your own traditions...be proud of your heritage.

initially i thought the thread is about calculus integrals.
but i think its networking you mean :)
networking is good, since you get to learn different perceptives and philosophies, but asian lacks this ability of "integrating" mostly because of communication barrier. :)

I do not know what happened to my earlier reply so it is here again.Please do understand the difference between integration and assimilation first.Sure do integrate but do not assimilate.Integrate means you have your own identity, your own culture, morals, religion, ethics and others in the group have theirs.You share all this with them , you share your food , your values , your culture , your morals etc and they share theirs. If you like it and can have a taste of it as allowed by your own values do have a taste of their food, culture , morals, standards, ethics, etiquettes etc. Do laugh with them do cry with them , do share your and their interests as far as your and their interests are same or their interests do not clash with yours.Their norms can clash with yours that is where you draw the line.Assimilate means you loose all your morals, standards, culture, ethics , etiquettes and adopt theirs that is not good.

i think a fully practising muslim would find it very hard to integrate within western society - can you imagine demanding a 3rd person sit between a male and female appraisal? LOL
i dont understand integration and i think it is a very cofusing idea. according to wikipedia there are many types of integration but the 2 u refer to are:-

Racial integration, or simply integration includes desegregation (the process of ending systematic racial segregation). In addition to desegregation, integration includes goals such as leveling barriers to association, creating equal opportunity regardless of race, and the development of a culture that draws on diverse traditions, rather than merely bringing a racial minority into the majority culture. Desegregation is largely a legal matter, integration largely a social one.
When people talk that foreigners are not integrating they mean not being able to talk english or the national language of wherever you are, living in neighbourhoods with people of a similar background to you, people keeping own traditions alive, people not mixing with the hosy/native community.
using the Uk as an example there is often talk about the asians not integrating - if you look deep down i think the issue is not integration but they want you to assimilate or be like them. i think practising muslimswould find it very hard to mixwith your average english family - can you imagine sitting men in one room and women in the other although in a get together there are break offs into male and female groups, men discussing cars, politics, finance, women discussingshopping, hair and beauty and homely stuff.
if i ask my self am i integrated? well do work,pay taxes, use public services, i visit heritage sites although most of my friends are muslim and very few are white. its not because i have decided not to integrate with them but moreso they went their own way and i another. i live in a racially mixed area and thats how i would prefer it. i do not ignore english people, english history and heritage. i listen to a vast array of music mostly english. i do find it easier mixing with asians, muslims because they are there for you in times of need.
people talk that asians more so muslims are not integrating but in fact it is about assimilating.
