I have been offered a job as an insurance agent where I will be going to peoples homes to sell insurance policy. I have to get atleast 2 people each week to sign up for the insurance. Does anyone have experience working as an insurance agent? Is this a safe and reliable job?

From what I know, you have to be an excellent speaker, convincer . It's mostly commission based and people generally already do have some kind of insurance. It's tough but once you are confident and know your stuff, you will pretty much settle into the job and its requirements and may be able to make some gd $.
Re: insurance agent
I don't really have experience in this field but know someone who does. And it is a very though one. As rosedreams mentioned these jobs are usually commission-based. Job security is quite limited because if you don't manage to sign up those 2 people each week over a certain period you'll be laid off. However if you do overcome that initial period that really is difficult, it might give you good money.
