Not a problem Brother. You are correct in that one of the definitions of TASBEEH is to glorify, however I do not agree with your conclusion that my argument is flawed since I am essentially saying the same thing. One of the meanings of TASBEEH is to Swim on the Surface or to Float up on Top... this in itself describes a tendency.
Hence TASBEEH describes the tendency towards Purification/Glory which can be natural or induced. The question (and what we probably differ on) is how to TASBEEH...
My understanding is that you cannot perform TASBEEH with utterance alone. The whole universe USABBIHULAHU, and it does so by following His command to the fullest by doing what it is designed to do... I think it means that for us, the best TASBEEH is to be best among creation by living up to par with being a living example of "Ahsani Taqweem", and the only way to do that in my opinion is to be the best among humanity. That is how you Glorify the Name of the Lord, day and night.
How many of us strive for this?

If you can build the conceptual bridge from the definition of Purest to mean strive to perfection then why is it hard for you to see that struggle and striving hard is actually a lot more closer in meaning?
Now linguistically SBH is indeed the root for tasbeeh, and I can agree with you that SBH is the root for PURE, I would have said GLORY. But I will agree with you. When you put a 'T' before the root it becomes a verb something that is done. Therefore the term tasbeeh should be either To Purify or To Glorify. It something that is being cast on to God.
However, your definition assumes that is what we cast upon ourselves, to "strive to perfection" I think you have drawn a flawed conclusion. Can you see? You have left the noun as a noun with the word pure replaced with the word perfection and your verb 'strive' you have introduced from yourself.
I have studied from Lane's lexicon (local mosque library) before and I'm in the mind of getting a lexicon for myself soon inshaAllah. Then we will be equally equipped.
