This was a few years back, Gupshup had a facility for Instant Messages, where you could message any guppy who was online during the same time as you and a pop-up message would appear with the message,

Why was this facility removed?

Yes, the facility was removed, since it was buggy (anyone could send a msg pretending to be anyone). It was a long time ago.

you’re confused go get some fresh air.

It was a project called GIM. Like GS MSN service. But it never made it to a final version.
