Bro’s trying to install Vista 64 bit, and the copy he has isn’t exactly legitimate ( ;). hint it starts with the word T and ends with ents) He needs to know
how to install it (he’s already running vista that came with his laptop, and knows how to use daemon tools etc etc.)
how to install to not lose previous data ie files, programs that are on the 32 so they can still be used on the 64 bit. Like use an external drive?
would he need to partition his drives in order to install it?
how to make the 64bit his main operating system.
he’s got 4GB of RAM, and the 32 is limited to 3 GB like XP
Any advice, or something to be aware of while installing it, completing installation. Anything else you l33t would do?
So you wanted to change it to 64 bit only due to get full RAM usage, right?
I also had such thing once I upgraded my RAMs to 4GB 2 years ago.
You can only install the x64 version of Vista if you have a 64-bit processor.
So first check if you have 64 bit processor.
Using 32 bit programs under 64 bit is not possible.
Having two vistas is also not possible may be using some pre boot softwares and on different partitions. ( I havent tested it)
Daemon tools is a thing to create a virtual drive and load the image files on that if you dont want to extract them. I dont know what use you want to make of it.
Well, as ^^ said you need a processor that supports 64 bit OS. You can't do an "in place" upgrade, so it has to be from scratch.
As for apps I haven't had any issues with running any of my 32bit applications, and you should know I use a lot of applications (there are always exceptions and old old apps).

thanks for the info. cant really address all of you individually, sorry. but i will address you guys as a whole.
im running a dual core t3200 (sadly not a core 2 duo), so ill be able to run 64 bit vista. and yes, im upgrading just so i can utilize the last gig of ram that is just sitting idle.
waiting for windows 7 is not an option. thats not being released until 2010-when. as for daemon tools, i just wanted to say that i know how to run .iso files etc.
so from what i understand from what you guys have said, i have to backup ALL my files/folders/programs and then install vista 64 bit and start from scratch? thats not a problem, but dam - ill have to do some serious re-torrenting later ;D
sad to admit, but ive never reformatted a computer or installed an os from scratch. im not really asking for a step-by-step thing (i can always get that from google), but im asking for hints!
