... and the one who had made trenches with him in the war of KHANTAQ was not muslim till that date of digging the trenches with prophet Mohammed-- He Was Salmane Farssi. He accepted Islam very very late and even for all those days he was non muslim was very close friend of prophet Mohammed.

Salman Farsi became a muslim the very day he first met Rasoolallah (sas).

Infact this was the reason why he came to Arabia to begin with. He was a scholar of the earlier scriptures, and was aware of the Prophecy of the Promised Prophet who would arrive in the land of the date palms in Arabia and he travelled all the way down to Arabia looking for the the Prophet (sas). He landed in Makkah, fell into slavery...got transported to madeenah, and it was in madeenah, when he was working on his Master's palm grooves..that he heard Muhammad (sas) just arrived from Makkah.

And secondly, the Prophet (sas) would never take help from the kuffar in a battle. He would actually turn them away, when they would come offering assistance, he would turn them away saying...he does not need their assistance.
