Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

What would you do if you were in katniss position?

For those who havent read the book or watched the movie. Heres a brief summary/intro:

In Suzanne Collins’ riveting tale of life in North America after its destruction, a powerful Capitol emerges as residents of its twelve outlying Districts individually struggle to survive under its bleak rule. Living under the constant reminder that the Capitol obliterated District 13 when the people incited a rebellion decades before, 16-year old Katniss Everdeen quietly carves out a path of meager survival for herself, her younger sister, Prim, and their widowed mother under the Capitol’s strict regime.
Each year, the Capitol assembles its Gamemakers to create an elaborate arena filled with deadly trigger points and calls upon one girl and one boy from each of the twelve Districts to play in its nationally televised Hunger Games. On the Day of Reaping when 24 children are selected to fight to the death, Katniss is whisked away from her daily quest for survival alongside her friend Gale, and thrust into the elaborate Capital as she is prepared for the Hunger Games.

so

If one of your loved ones were called on to play the game, would you volunteer to take his/her place?

If you are in her position, will you kill another human for survival?

Will you be able to hunt/feed on a squirrel or a rodent for your survival?

Re: Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

So my 11 year old sister is reading that book and according to Chapter's (book store) the book is meant to be read by "tweens." Why do I see so many adults obsessed with it?

Re: Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

same reason why 40 yr old women host book clubs revolving around the Twilight series I would suppose....

Re: Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

because its a really good book and if you had read it you would know.

Also Harry Potter was intended for children but many Adults read it.

Re: Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

oh no you didn't! Don't put twilight and the hunger games in the same category tyvm

Re: Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

kakee, i was not mocking the book....i have heard from many people that it is a good read and I do plan on reading it once I finish what I've finished my current book

I was merely trying to convey the fact that these days, alot of older, middle aged women seem to be drawn to pop culture/youth related books...

Re: Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

I don't think books are aimed at any age (I don't mean kiddy books like dora the explorer) I know kids who read Lord of the rings, Eragon etc and adults who have read Twilight, Magic tree house and so on

Re: Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

I'd like to think that I would, but I don't know.

Re: Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

I wasn't mocking the book either - simply asking what's so amazing about it. And naa I'll just leave it for the younger sister to read.

Re: Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

Namaan: you can download them for free from the internet :p or you can just watch the movie :)

Cdg: There are so many books meant for teens to read, but are popular among the adults as well. I read how actually there are a lot of concerned parents who are against their kids reading or watching the Hunger games. They find the plot to be disturbing, too violent for their kids.

Re: Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

^ Her daily quest before HG is with Gale.

Re: Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

Yes, I read the book, but that made it seem like Gale was whisked away to the Capital too, when he wasn't (unless they changed it in the movie which I haven't seen)

Re: Inspired by "The Hunger Games"

  1. depends on who the family member was. maybe.
  2. umm probly.
  3. yep. Bear Grylls yeahhhh

Also I've read all three books and the one thing I can commend the writer for is NOT making it about a friggin love story.
