Insecure about urdu

**Why are we so insecure about our national language ?

Why do we think tht Indian dramas/movies will change our culture through their language ?

Why do we feel dejected when we see a kid using word like “wishwaas ghaat” instead of dhoka ?

Indians are rather open minded about language … they don’t mind using typical urdu words like Shukriya (rather then dhanewaad) etc.

Re: Insecure about urdu

Using words from other languages is not bad at all unless its common and help in communication . But its also true that it does effect the purity of a language . Like we have so many English words in Urdu i.e. School . First it because the part of general conversation and now we can easily find it in Urdu literature . We do have a word for it in Urdu (Maktab) but we don't use it .

But again it depends how far up it is on our list of priorities . The question is will people mind having pure water or pure language ? I think answer is very clear :)

Re: Insecure about urdu

Pehly woh bhi dhoka hi kehty they wishwash ghat nahi phir shew seeena waghyra ki wichar on main phail giey aur unhon ne jan bojh ker woh alfaz istymal kerny shuru kiey ju woh khud bhi nahi bolty they. For Example on ki BUHAT hi Purani flimain dekhu aur phir 83 ke bad ki yeh traz I think 9os main ziada shuru howa hy sansikrat zaban ke alfaz ziada se ziada shamil kerny ka Pakistan Islam ka qila ban raha tha on dinon aur Indian drama and film sansikrat/Hindi tabhi tu unhon ne Urdu ke bajey isey Hindi kehna shuru ker diya tha:D I mean donon traf hai aag braber lagi hoi koi kisi se kam nahi:chai:

Return question.

Why do we feel dejected when someone wants to use pure Urdu words instead?

I think, it is somewhat a 'defeated' or 'passive' thinking to accept cultural strom 'deliberately' thrust upon people through movies and dramas.

Even Pakistani dramas have now shown this defeated mentality by interjecting non-Urdu (sansikrit) words ocassionally. In my opinion they should not do that.

Preserving a culture and unique identity in good, friendly and easy way is the responsibility of everyone.

I don't think thts true

What I meant when someone speaks pure Urdu without using many English words, that person is considered 'uneducated'. At times, even speaking Urdu in English accent is considered a fasion.

Bat tu sach hai:D

Re: Insecure about urdu

why do desis make fun of "ABCDs" for the way they speak urdu?

Re: Insecure about urdu

hamaray haan english mode of communication kam aur "status icon" zyada ban chuka hai .. .. whenever someone wants to impress someone - they start in english

once i shared an incident of my friend, who is too much into english stuff, sirf is liye k us ko status ka shoq hai. wo warid k office gya, aur waha koi complain .. achi hasi urdu mai baat kr raha tha .. bt jaisay hi gussa aya wo english mai start ho gya. He could not speak 2-3 sentences in english but still prefer english just to show off.

mai jab b pakistan jatta hou ya phir idhr kisi b pakistani say baat start krta hou i prefer to be speak in urdu .. but next person never prefer to do that. chalain idhr ki to samjh aati hai .. bt pakistan main .. "hey dude, wats up - hows your place" .. .. me: "fit hou yaar, Allah ka karam hai - tum sunao" .. "dude, I am good .. its hot .. u know .. " .. me: "g .. " ..

jb tk hum english ko status icon samjhtay rahay gaye us waqt tk hum ko apni language pr sharam hi aye gi :)

Re: Insecure about urdu

On different NOTE:

hum logo ko apnay culture say na janay q nafrat hai aur dusray cultures ko follow krna pta nahi q psnd hai. we feel ashame to speak the way we are .. but we love to speak and follow black ppl .. .. .. we call every that person a fob who try to be himself but we are impressed by those who follow blacks .. :) just a thing that popped in my mind.

yaar .. 16 anay sachi baat kahi hai ..

U know, I have an uncle and he is some masters from Punjab Uni aur un ko punjabi mai baat krnay ka bohat shoq hai .. .. .. normally jo desi log un say mitlay hain .. wo un ko kahtay hain .. aap ki batou say nahi lgta k aap parhay likhay hai .. q k aap english nahi boltay .. aur wo muskra detay hain .. :)

Bilkul theek bat Hai, Log kisi hal mein bhi jeenay nai detay.

call me crazy, but it really irks my poo when i see indians putting in a D where an R is correctly needed. For example girl = laRki. not laDki. :P

nahi yeh tu kuch bhi nahi dosri misal I will leave you Urdu Main tumhin chor don ga
Hindi Main tumhin chod don ga:cb: Ab banda pochey mian Urdu ki dushmani main itney bhi agey mat berhu ke Ray ko Dal likhney aur samjhny lago:hehe:

that’s not true at all

i feel the same way … it shouldnt be done

people who speak urdu in english accent are made fun of! they are definitely looked down upon .. and are thought of as a wuss … at least in pakistan.

there is nothing deeply profound about this subject other than the fact that it sounds funny.
its the same phenomenon as when the french make fun of canadian-french-speaking people.

there definitely are people who speak english to “impress” … but i think we can divide the english-speakers in 2 categories:

  1. those who went to government schools, or not very pro-english schools, and have a complex about it, and then english comes out of their mouths in strange ways. where in some schools english is taught grade 6 onwards. they are trying, i have to commend them for that, since our system does work in english, not urdu. you’re expected to read/speak/write well english in order to have a good job.

  2. those who went through private education where you’re expected to speak english as soon as you are born. where you gain admission depending on the fact if your parents are educated enough, if they speak well enough english. one of my cousin was rejected admission in a reputable school cuz the parents werent that educated, and not fluent in english. so the kids who end up going through this type of education have english ingrained on their existence. if we speak english or minglish, it’s not because we’re trying to put an impression, cuz thats just what comes out of mouths involuntarily.

magr phir b shusta urdu itni haath say nahi gayi. jitni khoobsoorat aik parhay likhay insaan k moun say urdu lagti hain, uska koi jawaab nahi. albata ye zarur hai k jo log urdu ka huliya bigaar ker, uska talafuzz bigar ker, usko ada kernay ki koshish kertay hain, to us per besakhta hassi bhi nikalti hai. kya kiya jaye, akhir insaan hain. khatakaar hain
pakistan ki kayee aisi hastian hain jo angrezi per mukamal aboor rakhti hain, aur unki adaigi kisi unchay darjay k angrez say kam nahi. magr jab wo urdu boltay hain, to jaisay bahar ajati hain :meeno:
