Insanity

What are the early signs of insanity? (serious replies please)

Re: Insanity

Paranoia.

Re: Insanity

^is it ever justified

Re: Insanity

first sign could be person talking to himself

Re: Insanity

^ I do it all the time… it’s not a measure of insanity :aj:

Many great people talked to themselves… you have to talk to yourself sometimes to go the extra mile when theres nothing else to push you on.

Re: Insanity

Not speaking from experience of anything lol...but I would have to say if you start seeing hallucinations, and you become really aggressive and start questioning everything.

Re: Insanity

Not being a psychiatrist or psychologist, I can only speculate, but I would think irrational and atypical behaviour for the individual, being suspicious/paranoid all the time, non-sensical behaviour.

When U remove the Watermelon from your head................then we can tell you............

First sign.................extremely scared of Dogs!

Re: Insanity

I talk to myself & even argue with myself:emmy:

Re: Insanity

tum bhi pagal hum bhi pagal

Okay so talking to yourself is one of the early sign and also paranoia. What else? Can it be treated at this stage?

Re: Insanity

i think you're asking too broad a question hareem. so many types of insanity i doubt they'd have the same warning signs.

Re: Insanity

Asking such a question on an online forum........ You need to see a psychiatrist, hareem.

Re: Insanity

talking to urself is NOT a sign of insanity:emmy:

I'm not really looking for a clinical definitions.

Re: Insanity

everyone talks with himself in heart but its actually the murmuring part(with sound) that can be sign a sign of insanity.
following is a test for those who think they are insane

Re: Insanity

Insanity can be viewed as a mind that has crashed in an error loop. The error loop will either be asking it to reconcile infinity - perpetual iteration, co-existence of opposites contradiction, or to create unreal premises - fabrication.

A forth, fifth, sixth or seventh series of error loops can be a result of combinations of the basic three.

The best definition of insanity I have found is in a book written by Imam Al-Ghazali:

Kitab Riyadat An-Nufs wa tadhib al akhlaq wa mualajat amrad al qalb

Book 22 of Ihya 'uloom udin

The actual text I'm quoting from is "Al-Ghazali On Disciplining the Soul ...." translated by TJ Winter ISBN 978-0-946621-43-9

Insanity is compared with stupidity:

The difference between stupidity and insanity is that the intention of the stupid man is sound, only his means of realising it are defective, since he is not possessed of a correct understanding of how to follow the way leading to his goal; the madman, on the other hand, chooses that which should not be chosen, so that the basis of his decisions and preferences is flawed.

He previously argues that insanity is an extreme repurcussion of an imbalance in the 4 cardinal virtues.

On analysis ...

These virutes are wisdom, courage, temperance and justice

Just by looking at these one knows that an insane person cannot be wise - because he does not know wisdom, he cannot be couragous because he does not understand fear, he is not one of temperance since his state is based on uncontrolled impluses, and cannot be just as this state would require the other three to be in tact.

It does not mean that an insane person does not emanate fear and does not arrive at witty or clever responses. These can happen, but they will be so by chance.

Depression is similar to insanity much in the way stupidity is similar to insanity. A simple rule to know is that:

The one who questions ones state of sanity and means to question it cannot be insane, since the purpose of the question is based on the healthy fear of becoming imbalanced, the insane will either not question it, deny when prompted or pay lip service to being insane without understanding what it is, since they have no desire to be balanced as they do not know what that state means or demands from them.

Also something like depression grows and has highs and lows. However, insanity dawns on a person without warning. Also, certain diseases which render mental problems are also not part of this definition.

Peace nasiraahmed

That test is the worst thing I have seen for a long time!

They are asking people if they have ever been admitted into a psychiatric institution…

Re: Insanity

A change in behavior/personality
Prev traumatic exp that may have triggered some sort of change in personality might be a start.

I talk to myself sometimes too :) I think im sane.. For Now!!
