innovation awards

anyone been following this?

http://www.saatchi.co.uk/innovation/flash.html

who du u think should win?
its a tough call innit

Re: innovation awards

Amazing.
They all are necessary.
The question now should be: which will be for the greater good?

Re: innovation awards

that printing skin and bones is what caught my eye
lifestraw is another
brain computer interface
restoring sight to the blind

others are good , the cancer one

the collapsible wheel, speaking books, and laptop for kids are good ideas but not on top of my list

Re: innovation awards

Restoring sight
Lifestraw
Organ reprinting

Maybe lifestraw...that would prevent many diseases...

Re: innovation awards

I think in terms if immediate and very widespread impact the lifestraw would be tops.

skin printing has some major implications and benefits for now and long term

brain computer interface can be used in many other ways.

the cellphoen thing is already beginning to fail.

laptops for kids, good idea, but I am wondering with the pace of technology, how obsolete would these become quickly? and what happens with maintenance, virus etc etc. There are some issues, i cant put my finger on all of it, but i can sense the issues in making this an ongoing program with low costs, I think already the cost estimates of the laptops have been revised up, and this does not factor in the laptops getting impacted by handling, climate conditions, dust, moisture whatever

Re: innovation awards

lifestraw would be my choice, simply because it is simple and has the largest cost-benefit ratio. Its impact on public health in underdeveloped countries can be tremendous

Moreover, it prevents disease instead of some other devices in that list that cure, palliate already existing diseases. That also contributes to its potential to save numerous lives in the whole general population

Re: innovation awards

Nescio thats what I was thinking but also thought that coming from a family of environemntal, water type engineers, i may be biased.

Re: innovation awards

^no i don't think so. lifestraw would be a worthy winner.

To elaborate on why I think the lifestraw will have applications in the whole world and in all aspects of society:

  • poor children in 3rd world countries
  • displaced persons after natural disasters (like earthquakes)
  • persons going on holidays for survival in bushes
  • soldiers in a battle field in a dirty environment
  • etc

  • water on Mars???????
