Razia Butt passed away yesterday at the age of 89. She had been sick for the past few weeks and passed away at her home in lahore.
She was born in sialkot before partition and was the 3rd child amongst 11 siblings (4 brothers and 7 sisters). Her family moved to peshawar when she was very young. Her father was a very progressive man and educated all his children, particularly focusing on his daughters. Infact Razia Butt’s oldest sister was the first woman from NWFP to complete her bachelors degree (at the time travelling to lahore to do so) and became the principle of lady griffith school. Another sister of Razia ji is a anesthesiologist in New York (i believe she is retired now).
Razia ji wrote 51 novels and over 350 stories. Some of her famous works include Bano and Saiqa both of which have been adapted for TV and aired on Hum tv. Here’s an interview of hers with bushra ansari:
