About 1 week ago I injured my knee. I feel pain in my knee all the way down to the calf area…not sure exactly. It seems like while doing some cardio kickboxing I must have pivoted incorrectly…my knee went in one direction and my body in the other.
Does anyone know if it’s ok to do low impact cardio with an injured knee or should I just rest it? give me your advice and suggestions based on personal experience or expertise please.
My instructor said it’s ok to do low impact cardio…but I’m still unsure. i am used to working out 6 days a week and I feel so sluggish since I have been on a break for so long.
I think only you or your instructor can tell if you can continue to train. I personally have trained even when I had sprained ligament, although I had to be very careful. Only time when I had to stop training was when I fractured a finger, and I was told that I might need a surgery.
Give it a try and see how it goes. If you feel uncomfortable then do stop and rest, until you feel able to resume. Sometimes when you do not let your body recover it just makes things worse.
Make sure you do a proper warm up and stretching before exercising.
you should stop all kinds of physical training when u have an injury... if u still insist in doin cardio... go for swimming... its one of the best known cardio exercise...
if u train ur lower body... stop it for sometime until u feel that ur knee is fine to handle the training...
If problem is still there..i suggest consulting doctor. Good Luck.
great suggestion. swimming! why didnt I think of that! of course swimming is best. Therapists even suggest swimming to people that are recovering from injuries as well.
Very nice ideas suggested. I have gone on for an extended period of time without any cardio during - not an injury - but hurting in my thighs and legs, so I know how you feel when you don't get the cardio workouts in your routine. I would still suggest doing any type of activity that is different from your normal routine. Change it to low impact cardio but do it because you will feel good afterwards, and it will motivate you to go further the next time until the pain is all forgotten about. You and your body knows best, the instructor is only there to facilitate and help you get in shape. Your body knows when to stop and when to push harder when you are working out. Just watch for signs and start the cardio workouts soon!
No I havent been to the doctor …I figured it would heal in due time with rest and using knee supports. I felt more discomfort then pain so didnt think going to the doc was necessary since the knee is gradually getting better. I’m so bad about going to the doc (no time)
I am not sure exactly how my knee got this way but I am almost positive that it happened during my cardio kickboxing class. I believe that when I was pivoting my knee went in one direction and the rest of the my body in the opposite. Instructor is guessing the same thing.
The discomfort is in my knee and goes down the the left side up to the shin…not sure if that makes sense.
I have been working out for several years now and this is my first injury…it’s minor but still a setback sigh
Missy you better see a doctor…skip a day of the gym and off u go to the daakter…otherwise we’ll just have to get EMM for you…and I think I have heard she is looking for someone to experiment her daaktery…
Challo you got of easy…we would have liked to see EMM’s work of ..err Art too..I mean daaktery too…I have heard she likes to put peeplan in casts for not a lot of reasons, and not just any but the customized designer painted ones(ofcourse thats just to facilitate Nemo’s “paintery” talents:whistling:)If you were lucky enough to have a knee that still wasnt that better:D
If you feel pain and injury and cardiac problem then you have to immediately consult your heart surgeons and strictly follow the instruction of your heart surgeons as you little and minor negligence can take your life in minutes.
