Injuring others with our words

Do we earn sin for unintentionally injuring someone with our words?

This is in reference to a hadith where a sahabi told the Prophet ( pbuh) that there’s a woman who injures her neighbours with her words, and the prophet (pbuh) said she’s in hell.

so if we hurt someone while not knowing …lets say…during a debate over something…will we still get punished for it?

Re: Injuring others with our words

Im not sure, but I would think that it’s if you intentionally say something to hurt someone’s feelings that’s wrong.

But if someone does think they hurt someone else’s feelings unintentionally, there’s no harm in apologising anyway:hypo:

Re: Injuring others with our words

Peace,

Debate is different then directly injuring someone's feelings. But in any debate if we control our emotions and stay keep calm while answering rather then get angry and pass such comments which found by other as offensive. of'coz is a cause of sin.

Re: Injuring others with our words

Debating an issue is one thing and of course debate is between parties having differing views. The participants must be allowed to express their views in a nice and appealing manner but at times some debaters intentionally try to hurt feelings of others one way or the other often touching subjects that have no link to the topic of debate but has enough venom to hurt their feelings/sentiments. I think the hadith applies to such people as well.
