Ingredient of the Week - YOGURT

Dear All,

It amazes me how each and everyone of us can brilliantly use the same ingredient in a 1000 different ways … … so I thought of exploring it further.

Each week we will have a certain spice/herb/fruit/vege …please tell us how and why you use the ingredient of the week in day to day life.

I realize yogurt is not an herb/spice/fruit/veggie but I love it and am wondering what ways you all use it.

Re: Ingredient of the Week - YOGURT

  • to marinate chicken for bbq
  • marinating boneless veal for salan
  • add it to my salans
  • dhai balay
  • my cousin put it on her daughter cuz she had dandruff
  • my MIL makes dhoi - a Bengali sweetdish

Re: Ingredient of the Week - YOGURT

Beside all of its tastefullness as an ingredient...yogurt is an excellent commodity to fight stress...

Re: Ingredient of the Week - YOGURT

I use yoghurt as a face mask as well ... it totally freshens me up and sometimes when yoghurt is left in the fridge unused for a few days , I dont take the risk of eating it , but it becomes perfect hair conditioner , use it on your hair and leave for half hour then take bath and hair become really nice and silky...

If used in naan , it makes them really soft :@:

I make hung-curd to make a creamy dip with mint and cucumbers.

I add it to my salan's, life wouldn't be pleasant at all without fruit yoghurt.

Ive never had yogurt and imli ki chutney though...something to think about. :)

Ladies, do you add yogurt directly to the chicken or make a marinade first with it? How does that work?

Re: Ingredient of the Week - YOGURT

fried aubergine slices with spices on top of plain yoghurt, goes nicely with arabic cuisine.

also boiled palak mixed in yoghurt works as a raita as well as a starter.

Re: Ingredient of the Week - YOGURT

I use yoghurt to marinate meat, addit to salans, make raita, use it as an accompiment with biryaniand khaman dhokla.
