It amazes me how each and everyone of us can brilliantly use the same ingredient in a 1000 different ways .... ... so I thought of exploring it further.
Each week we will have a certain spice/herb/fruit/vege ...please tell us how and why you use the ingredient of the week in day to day life.
My mum makes the yummiest cabbage rolls.
With the leftover cabbage, she'll make cabbage ki tarkari and coleslaw.
Cabbage with Gosht & Qeema, cabbag ein chinese stir fry/lo-mein, sometimes use red cabbage in a regular salad. I even use it as a salad chopped thin and a dressing of lemon vinaigrette(lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar, salt,pepper) pretty light, crunchy & healthy, n yummy tasting.
I also use it to stuff qeema and bake in tomato based sauce....you can make halal pig in a blanket...using chicken/beef instead of pork...hmm
Cabbage is really wonderful when boiled with a nice cut of spiced beef and a healthy dose of vinegar. Add some quartered potatoes and onions and its a traditional Irish meal thats reallyver tasty.
Fuhgeddabout Red Cabbage for Sauerbraten!!! MAN. what a delectable dish! You marinade the beef for 3 days in brine, boil it for 4 to 6 hours, add red cabbage. A heavy meal, great in the winter and surely unforgettable.
