Info Required Regarding NUST and UET.

I am considering applying to NUST and UET for the next academic year. I have currently taken only my O’Levels and will not be taking A’Levels until next June, so the result will be announced in August. Can any student from these institutions with the same background provide me with some information about how they went about the admissions process?

Also, how are these institutions in terms of the quality of coursework, faculty, student body, etc, and any other information you feel is relevant.

Also, how are the admissions tests like.

Sincerely,

Info Required Regarding NUST and UET.

Hello,
I have been admitted to UET Lahore. What is the main differnece is that uet is govt univ and you have to pay little or no fees. But in NUST you have to pay around Rs 80,000 per year.
Regarding courses both are good and both are reputable universities.

Prep for NUST and UET

One thing more. You have to study hard to get these colleges but there is very hard competition. I suggest go to anees hussain or student's corner if possible. But if are determined and have self control, you can study at home.

I was also an O/A level student, and then joined NUST. NUST will let you take the entry test, even if your Alevel result is not out yet. I believe 25% of the admission score will be based on the conversion score (by the Interbaord conversion committee) from Olevels to Matriculation. 75% of the remaining would be the entry test, and if I were you, I'd start running through the FSc course books for preparation. Its not hard, but there are so many candidates all over Pakistan, and very limited seats. I dont know about UET (I heard its getting good), but NUST has a good engineering curriculam, and excellent professors, atleast in the EME college, where students are now being exposed to alot of industrial experience, by the professors there in the fields of Digital Signal Processing etc. As for the 80K per year, thats true, but most of the NUST students were on scholarship, as the ministry of science and technology had so many awards. I remember about 25 out of the 40 students in our class had scholarships of Rs. 5000 per month to their name.

Re: Re: Info Required Regarding NUST and UET.

That's very encouraging to hear; appreciate the prompt responces.

One more thing. Someone told me that only straight A students have a chance in NUST. Is this a myth or a reality?

Not really. Alot depends on your admission test, and how it goes. Alot of straight A students do not take the admission test seriously and loose alot of the 75% alloted for test. Also, if you have more than 6As in Olevels, you get 721 marks (marticulation equivalent), so it doesnt really matter that much. Just work hard on the test, it wouldnt hurt to join some academy too, and best of luck to you!

Assalam-o-alaikum,

I've got admission to NUST Insti, of IT in Rawalpindi.
I wanna ask how is this college? Quality and facility wise etc.
Also Spock , how can i apply for scholarship. In prospects they have written that students acquiring greater than 3.5 GPA will get scholasrship ??!!

Proactrive, I got 69% in inter 1st year. My position in NUST test was 1140. So, besides good inter or A-level grades, test is extremely imp. My marks in inter r low coz i hate rattafication, but my concepts r good. So always, during ur A-levels, have good concepts that helps a lot in aptitude tests. I did not went into any test prep. centre, but it's good idea to go there. But after all it's yourself who have o work HARD.
NUST expenses are 6000/mo. but as i live in khi, so i'll live in hostel which costs me extra 5000/mo., So it amounts upto 11000/mo.

As far as UET is concerned, they have 70% weightage of inter, & 30% only to their test. So u gotta have excellent numbers to get thier. Also, UET has a quota system. People from Khi or sindh get very very few(i 've heard it's abt. 10 in all) seats, so it's even more difficult.
Expenses at UET r about max of 20,000 - 25,000 /year whwn living in their hostel otherwise it's even less..

Also , u should know that NUST conducts it test in April, whereas UET in July.

Salaam Badar, and good luck for your degree at NIIT. I was in a different college (EME College) since my major was engineering. However, I heard that the faculty at NIIT was also very good. So you are good on that. NIIT also got some labs donated by Intel I heard.

Is the campus still at Chaklala Scheme 3? The one I remember from 2002 was a smaller campus, compared to EME. Where are the NIIT hostels located at. As for the NUST scholarships, yes, if you get above 3.5 you will get it. Its either than or the top 5 positions in class. There are also these scholarships from MOST that are Rs. 5,000 per month, based on an academic test. I remember all of us from NUST who appeared in the test managed to get those too. Once again, good luck, and study hard!

Assalam-o-alaikum,

Thank u , Spock , for the info. I could not find any such scholarship on MOST's website. Can u tell me when the test for this scholarship was conducted.
The campus is at the same location as u mentioned. EME is the biggest of all the NUST's colleges. So NIIT would be smaller to it. Hostel is far from the uni.

Spock I read some of your other messages and you stated you went to went to the U.S. as a transfer student. Was it MSU or Michigan? What kind of a place is East Lansing/Ann Arbor?

Also, for those institutions which have a collaboration with NUST, does NUST offer scholarship to the students enrolled in these collaborative programs.

Another question that comes to mind is what is the Merit percentage of the NUST test to get into E&ME?

I think the test was conducted in 2001, cant remember the month. First 250 applicants got the scholarship, the next 250 were supposed to get qaraz-e-hasna, but they changed it to scholarships as well. It was held the following year too, as I remember it was conducted in the E&ME campus.

Badar99, Im sending you a detailed PM about the split program scholarships.

MoST is not offering these scholarships anymore. It will continue for old students but now it offers scholarships for PhD etc. No scholarships for undergrads anymore.

I just looked at the UET Lahore admissions section and there is no seat category for people residing in the Federal Capital, or do they apply on the basis of merit as Punjab Category students do. This is confusing, I hope somone who has been/is/knows someone from Islamabad that has studied at UET Lahore can give me some insight into this thing.

Regards.
