Have any of you sent your passports for renewal. I need some info/experiences/procedures/documents required. Mine will be expiring 11th next month. I think I got the two forms that I need for the whole process but wanted to check with you guys for additional info. I am a pakistani living in MI on H1 status. I do have the old NIC(National Identity Card). From what I hear, we need to get the updated I.D. Card which is called NICOP(National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis). At this point I have the Form ‘A’ for the renewal of passport and the NICOP application(which for some strange reason needs to be filled out in the english form and the urdu form???). Any info/help would be great. Thanks guys. KH.
Follow the guidelines on the application. For passport you have to fill both english and urdu forms. But first mail the form for ID card, once you get the Id card, then mail the forms for passport. it takes 6 months to get the ID card because it will be coming from pak, passport take 14 days only....
is it necessary to send the form for the id card first.....if i do that then my passport will expire...it is only valid till next month......however i dont plan on travel anywhere anyway....??????..
thatsok..my passport is also expired.. i have lost my Id ..lol..Now I'll be applying for a another ID...as far as you are not travelling or changing Job, its fine...
You passport doesn’t have anything to do with your job.
Asif, from what I understand, you can still apply for the passport using your old I.D. When you do that though, they will only renew your passport for one year. About getting NICOP, I sent them the application and waited for 6 months and never got it. I gave up on it and then when I visited pakistan the next time, I just applied for a regular new I.D card which I got within a month or so. My folks back home mailed it to me here. I used that to apply for the passport renewal next time I needed it without any issues. As for the NICOP, I am yet to receive it and its been more than 2 years.
If you are not sure, just call Pakistan Embassy. I think Michigan falls under NY Consulate. Their number is 212-879-5800, 212-517-7541.
the visa on the passport and you have to submit it in HR.....if you have a relative in pakistan then you can get the forms and fill them and mail them back, they can submit them to NADRA.
you have to submit the visa on the passport to HR? never heard of that before and I never did that myself. I have had a job on H1 for 5 years. The employer’s only concern is your H1 approval and thats what they need to have a copy of. Your visa on the passport is not even required for H1 (that is if you don’t need to travel) and it may even reflect the name of your previous company.
I have heard that the new machine-readable passports can only be 'made' in Islamabad.. so once you apply for a new passport through the embassy/consulate in US, make sure you give enough time in your travel plans. 2 weeks is the minimum (w/ urgent fee) that I have heard. Check from the embassy before making any travel plans.
iam on h1 myself...according to the consulates website..they proff that i am living in usa legally....so what should i send....notice of approval from ins stateing about my h1 approval....original??????...i definately dont want to lose that....
i contacted the head guy at the consulate in chicago since it is the closet one to me here in MI....here is what he said regarding the requirements and documents..........
Renewal of Expired Passport:
· Complete Form-A for applicants above 12 years; Form B for below 12 years (visit www.embassyofpakistan.org for Form A & B). (signatures and thumb impression (left-male, right-female in black ink)
· 4 Current Photographs (light blue background, not more than 6-months old); One photograph to be notarized if sending by mail.
· Original computerized national ID card (CNIC) or computerized national ID card for overseas Pakistanis (NICOP). In case of its absence, old ID card in original or notarized copy and application for NICOP/CNIC for restricted validity passport.
· Renewal fee $46 for ordinary (14 work days) or Urgent $120 (5 work days) payable in Cashier check / US Postal Money order to the Consulate General of Pakistan. All fees are non-refundable.
· Expired passport in original with copy 1-4 pages
· Proof of resident in US (Original or notarized copy of green card /valid US visa or driving license)
· Applicant under 18 years of age should provide registration FORM-B of NIC.
· The use of Express Mail is recommended for all deliveries. Self addressed prepaid envelope should be included if sending by mail. (Use USPS Express Mail ONLY for urgent items. We DO RECEIVE envelopes through FedEx, UPS, DHL and Airborne Express, but we CANNOT SEND return envelopes through them. Kindly ensure that return envelopes are of USPS only). Kindly note that the Consulate shall not be responsible for loss of documents in the mail.
Send a copy of your H1 approval, not the original. Send old passport. If you have any I-94 stapled with your passport, take it out before you send your passport for renewal. If it has any valid visa stamp on your passport, they should send the old expired passport back to you with the new renewed passport. You should have it attached to your new passport. Make sure to make a copy of your visa on your expired passport before you send it for renewal.
Please make sure that when you apply for Passport renewal you should also apply for the new (computerized) National ID Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) otherwise they are going to send your application back to you.
