Info about Venders and Caters

First of all
i like to ask that how does this vendering thing works who does the flowers, lighting, stage set up, catering?
is it all done by one company or different?

Secondly

Finally…
what do they mean when they say we oraganise wedding or when they this is wedding planner.
i thought wedding planner is there from the beginning till the end helping out with all the messy stuff like going to caters arranging stuff there and collecting clothes and meeting with the bridal salons to arrange appointments.

Many thanks

Re: Info about Venders and Caters

it depends on what you hire them for... you have planners that are there with you from start to finish and they charge accordingly, and you can have a planner come in on the day of the wedding to coordinate things that particular day.

wedding planners usually do the legwork for you- finding the caterers, approving the menu, making your appointments, going with you to cake tastings, getting the decor sorted, etc., and of course negotiating prices to stay within your specified budget. wedding planners also unofficially provide emotional support to the usually stressed out bride and groom :)
they also keep track of payments, i.e. who needs to be paid when and tipped how much. this is a HUGE help because you're usually having too much fun on your wedding day to think of these things, and at least in toronto, a number of vendors need to be paid on the day of the wedding. i handed all of this over to the hubs and to my maid of honour who handled it beautifully so i didnt have to stress about anything that day. even if you dont have a planner, make sure someone trustworthy and reliable and with a complete list of vendors to be paid/tipped and how much, is available to help you there.

there are companies that will provide a lot of services under one roof, and there are companies that will do only one thing specifically. usually though, if a company caters and puts up tents, thats their speciality, and their floral services for example, might not be the best because its not their expertise. for my wedding, for instance, the venue was separate but they had preferrred tent and caterers so we hired them. all my other vendors were individuals who just did one thing, i.e only flowers, only cake, etc.

Re: Info about Venders and Caters

They do are a wonderful help from what I have heard. Do they tend to differ in Pakistan than how they are here? Also, what do they normally charge (for one day or staying with you throughout?)

Re: Info about Venders and Caters

i don't know about planners in pakistan... i haven't interacted with any. here i know because i'd done a lot of research when i was planning my own gig, but in the end decided to go it alone.
i think you really have to be careful and make sure your personalities match and that the planner is willing to listen to you and your ideas and give you what you want. you don't want someone who's just going to steam roll over your ideas... i met a florist like that. damn, but she was a nightmare. thank goodness i didn't hire her!
