So I have this nephew who is 2 yrs old. Well he is a little tall for his age…not too much…but a little above average. His weight is perfect he is not fat or anything. But since he started walking he has this issue with his feet. When he walks his toes face inwards instead of straight ahead. SO his feet are turned inwards, both of them. And his knees are not straight either they face more outward than straight. Now this infant is located in PK. And u know how ppl talk like oh what is wrong with his feet. His mom is worried. She went to the doctor and he put braces on his feet. Which made it worse. Now the doctor is saying do Surgery…what do u guys think I could suggest to them? Do u think problems like this will get better as he gets older?
Re: Infant Advice
umm wait and let him walk it out. he just started walking right i'm guessing. at this age kids are still getting a hold of the new found ability. don't put shoes on his feet unless it's absolutely necessary. his bones are going to grow and settle in their new places. 2 years is way too early to have surgery for something like that IMO
Re: Infant Advice
Talk to some doctors over here and get second opinion.
Re: Infant Advice
thats what i was thinking....he has been walking for a while now...i think its been at least 10 months or so...
Re: Infant Advice
iv sin this before, its best to sort out when the child is young because the bones then grow straight, if he grows up an still has this problem is a very long and painful procedure to straighten the legs, involving breakingbones etc.
get a second opion from a different doctor.
Re: Infant Advice
one of my close relative was having same problem, except for the'knee' thing.
Doctor recommend some special branded shoes and very light oil message.now he is 4 and perfectly alright..Alhamdolillah.
Ask his 'MOM' not to take tension and worries.he will be alright .
Re: Infant Advice
I’m not a doctor or an expert but it sounds to me like “bow legs”…here is a link that explains it
best to seek a second opinion…and a third, until they find a doc that they’re comfortable with. Sometimes these things need to be addressed early on for the best outcome and sometimes they can wait. You want to be sure you’re doing the right thing so best to seek out another opinion.
Re: Infant Advice
pyari where is your sister? do get a second opinion and if possible have a physical therapist experienced in peds look at him too.
Re: Infant Advice
ask yr sister to be patient , and take her kid to any well known child specialist .....................
in case kid require surgery o physiotherapy , ask that doctor for referals
Re: Infant Advice
Almost all kids have bow feet until they are five or six years old. If he's walking normally, I wouldn't go for surgery either. Definitely get a second opinion and see how deviant he is from normal.
Re: Infant Advice
My nephew lives in PK....and he has shown several doctors in Lahore, even specialists. But we still want more opinions because he is such a little kid and this is a life long situation. Most people said he will need surgery. There was this one doctor who gave him a series of 3 shots over 3 months as well as told my bhabi to do malash with oil and gave him syrup (not sure what the syrup was or what type of shots. But I believe the syrup was a vitamin source). Then after that another doctor told him to get braces. My bhabi put the braces on his legs for I believe 4 or 5 hours, maybe even more, a day. Then after 3 wks she took it off after seeing that it made the situation worse. Now they got another x-ray of his legs and the doctor said to get surgery. I live in America so I plan to show a doctor or two here to get a second opinion to make sure we are doing the right thing. But its just a little scary.
The website that mamaof3 gave and the little girl in pink the way her legs are is exactly how my nephews legs are but his feet are slanted inwards (not as much as the last pic in the website shows).
Thanks mamaof3 for the website it helped a lot.
Thanks for ur opinions....
