Infamous Mata Hari

Who was she? I heard her name in old movies where a bad woman is referred to as Mata Hari.

Wikipedia says that she was a spy who was executed in France. But how she got such an Indian name? I thought she might be a vamp from Mahabharata :smack:

Re: Infamous Mata Hari

Never heard of her...

Re: Infamous Mata Hari

She was a Dutch "exotic dancer", actually called Maragerthe Zelle. Mata Hari was her stage name that she picked to perform under, as she danced in a style that was slightly inspired by the east, having lived in Indonesia.

Re: Infamous Mata Hari

 really she was one of most famous spy…

Re: Infamous Mata Hari

What were her major achievement as a spy?

Re: Infamous Mata Hari

Never heard a vamp ever being referred to as “Mata” ever…Mata means a mother and thats quite a revered term.

Mata Hari was just a spy, willing to dance nude, and sleep with anybody for information. And the name was just a way to conceal her identity and confuse others about her origins.
