I just came back from Pakistan 2 days ago and as one knows, all Indian Channels are off the air(which I thank god for). I, for one am very optimistic about Pakistan’s Entertainment front and it was a delight to flick open the screen and find people who are not singing ‘vande madram’ every other munite being watched by insolent crowds who have no sense of paitriotism what so ever.
One of the Channels I tuned into almost daily was Indus Vision.
The Channel seemed Fresh and full of life and had a set schedule of Programmes (quite unlike PTV which till date I cant get the timings to)
Another Plus point was the programmes which they show. The dramas are pretty good for an evolving Channel and the music shows have rather interesting themes and they show they whole songs.
The only down point I found was that there were too many Music shows and less Dramas. The movies we could without(but, belive it or not I actually liked watching pakistani movies as a source of laughter)
Overall I think Indus Vision is a great representative of the nex-gen Pakistan and I wish others would follow its example and get better shows and a dose of freshness…
No it isent. But it will be. They are currently trying to expand the chanell to all parts of Pakistan. There are talks about starting up an Indus Network. With seperate chanells for news, sports, movies etc. They have the funding to do it but I dont think it’ll happen for at least another year or so.
The chanell itself though is excellent. I watch it all the time. Its refreshing and very hip - in line with todays Pakistanis. A lot of young people tune into Indus Vision and its certainly the number one entertainment chanell in the country.
My personal favs are the entertainment programs that have lots of info on our film stars and musicians and a program called Karachi Walley. Thats where we hear from regular citizens - complaining about high oil prices, the corrupt traffic police, pollution, under age drivers, etc. Entertaining and truthful
An excellent channel, proving that Pakistani media lives on, despite the lack of support shown by many Pakistanis who switched over to Indian channels...
Although Indus Vision is great, but I must also point out that PTV is not crap... Just because it airs the khabernama and those kashmir videos does not make it a fazool channel like many people say. There are 3 or 4 PTVs now, and the original one is the best. It still comes up with excellent dramas (no channel can match those, pakistani or indian) and has exclusive rights to show all new music videos. Advertizing on PTV has improved considerably due to star plus going off the air in Pakistan and its time PTV 1 will once again secure its place as the best Pakistani television channel of all times.
There is room for improvement though...
- GET RID OF THE STUPID ARABIC NEWS!!! The arabic news was started when we lost Bangladesh and Bengali news was conveniently replaced by Arabic News
- Lesser ads. during dramas;
- repeated transmission at night
- shortened version of the Khabarname, from 30 minutes to 15 minutes (im sorry, ministers have to go
