Has anyone ever had to be induced to start labour?
Induction
Yes..my labor with my eldest son was a scheduled induction. I was stuck at 1.5 cm from 36 weeks to 38 weeks. They were estimating him to be over 8lbs so my OB didn’t want to put me in the position of having a hard time pushing so I was scheduled to be induced at 39 weeks. I got to the hospital…they started a pitocin drip/IV…dr broke my water at 4 cm…baby was born less than 3 hours later. No epidural, no episiotomy. I had a very easy and good experience with being induced ![]()
(And he was only 7.5 lbs, not as big as they thought lol)
Re: Induction
I was induced with my son shortly after they broke my water at 2 cms - I had gone in because he hadn’t moved all day and this was five days before my scheduled induction at week 40. My contractions were very quickly off the charts and I got the epidural at 3 cms and laboured for 15 hours. Got stuck at 8 cms for two hours and given that he was 9.5lbs and I’m 5’2", they opted to do a C section. They said he was getting a cone head and would likely cause serious tearing if we proceeded vaginally. At that point, I was so exhausted, I was just happy he was coming out!
Re: Induction
I was induced because I was stuck at 3 cm with no sign of labour and a week past my due date.
Water was broken at around 5 cm but the process took much longer than expected and ultimately resulted in a C-section because pushing was making no difference and she was 9.5 lbs.
Induction
Wow mashallah healthy babies
In the UK they dont induce until 42 weeks, im 2 days away from due date wish they would induce sooner
Re: Induction
My water broke at home with both my kids so I had to be given pitocin to start the contractions. The contractions were really strong and so bad … Thank god for epidural!!
Re: Induction
I’m 42 weeks tomorrow n going in 4 induction but have heard its worse than normal delivery.
Re: Induction
Don’t know what you mean by normal delivery. You can have a perfectly normal delivery being induced
the contractions are bad because they start at once and don’t gradually become stronger (like “normal” labor) but other than that it shouldn’t affect your delivery …
Re: Induction
I was stuck at 2cm then my water broke n no pain i was induced and delivered after 6 hrs at 38.5 weeks
Re: Induction
I meant going into labour naturally on your own
Re: Induction
You will be fine
don’t overthink it, just focus on that baby finally being in your arms ![]()
Re: Induction
I’m a thyroid patient. With my first born, the Dr didn’t make a fuss of it and I had a natural labour and delivery.
The second time round the dr was of the opinion that I be induced as soon as I reached the 40 week mark. Had the drip attached at 11.30am and my boy was born at 12.30pm Alhumdulillah. In retrospect it’s awesome that it all happened within 1 hour but I had not mentally prepared myself for how fast the contractions would come on.
Re: Induction
No personal experience b/c I don’t have any kids. However, my husband deals with women in labor at his work & I’ve had several friends who have had babies with AND without inductions. From what I hear from my husband and friends w/ kids, MANY women claim that contractions with pitocin tends to be more intense (hence painful).
But on the flip side, every woman’s experience is different. If you haven’t given birth before, you really won’t be able to compare whether you contractions when being induced are any worse than what they would have been if you were not induced. So the best thing you can do is to speak with your OB and the nurse once you get to the hospital about your concerns, and get an epidural when you feel the pain is too much.
Re: Induction
I hope you had your baby and you’re both doing well!
Induction
Is it true that induction can take several days?
Re: Induction
mine took less than 3 hrs ![]()
when they started the pitocin drip, I was told that it generally takes 12-14 hrs, especially since it was my first, but boy were they wrong lol
Re: Induction
I would hope not! I think they would make the call for a C much quicker if the induction wasn’t working. Despite the epidural, it is exhausting because your body is still contracting and so strongly even if you can’t feel the pain. Three years ago today mA and I still remember the sheer tiredness so clearly.
Re: Induction
No. Once they give you pitocin, you won’t be able to leave the hospital until baby is born. Since pitocin is meant to induce labor by increasing contractions, it’s not going to slow down labor. And the doctors aren’t going to allow you to several DAYS! If the induction isn’t working, they’ll recommend a C-section.
On the other hand, in SOME women, epidural has been known to slow down labor. Again, every woman reacts differently to these meds to don’t assume that you will have the exact same reaction to these medications as someone else.
Re: Induction
Yep…one of my best friends labored for a day (22 hours if I remember right) after pitocin with her 2nd child. She was so exhausted that she herself brought up Csection to the OB.
Induction
I think the Uk has different procedure before trying the drip they use a gel or pessary which they give 6 hours to work, they can try this up to three times and then move onto the drip, so thats why i have heard induction takes several days
I guess it all depends on the individual and body, they seem to be more proactive in america
They move onto c section if baby in distress and if nothing happens after all the stuff like gel, pessary n drip
Scared, i really dont want to be in there for days
