Indonesian Earthquake - Volunteer Night

Salam TO guppies,

As you may have heard, Indonesia was hit by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake on Monday. According to the Indonesian government, over 5000 people have lost their lives in this tragic event.

The charity organization that I work with, NAMF (North American Muslim Foundation), will be holding a volunteer night tonight, May 29 at 7pm, for all those people that are interested and willing to help out with this tradegy. NAMF collects supplies from all over the GTA, pack them into boxes, puts these boxes into those large containers (…like the ones you see being shipped by boat), and sends them to areas that are in dire need of these supplies.

I know that I’m posting this on short notice, but we need to work quickly so that we can send out as many containers as possible. We have also invited the media so that more people become aware of this situation.

If you are interested to come out tonight, or even if you would like to help out some other time (I’m sure we’ll be needing a lot of volunteers once the supplies start coming in…) Any other comments or suggestions…please do let me know…

if you would like to call and ask for directions - since everyone comes from somewhere else..and i can’t really type out all the directions, you can call 416-299-1969, Ext. 22 or 23…and someone will be more than happy to help you out..

otherwise there’s always google and map quest…

i know...it's so sad to hear about it :(
and you know what..when it really boils down to it..it doesn't matter where you're from, what you believe in, or what colour you are..just the fact that you're doing something to help out..it just makes you a bigger person.. :)

info on enrolling, where its taking place, directions etc would help a bit.. there are people here that dont like their names/presence mentioned.. even to organizers and like to just POP secretly..

Yeah smilestar, I also think it would be a good idea if you post the meeting time and information in your original post, so people who wish to remain anonymous can just appear there.

If you are interested in helping out, these are some of the things that are needed urgently by the people in Indonesia...

MEDICAL SUPPLIES

  1. Antibiotics – for malaria, dysentery, diarrhea, and other water diseases

I would just like to say .. please everyone.. help out... i can't say much for Indonesians living in western countries.. but the ones living in KSA aren't very well off, most working as maids or drivers etc... if they can help their ppl back home with whatever little money they have, im sure everyone else can too...

please help out in any way you can :)

For guppies in KSA, the Indonesian Consulate is accepting items for donation aswell. The list matches the one already given above.
