Everyone is getting increasingly self-centred and self serving.
In olden times, people used to value the institutions i.e. family, clan, etc. People gave up some of their personal interests for the greater good of the family AND got support in the time of need from the family too.
Do you think its for better or worse?

Re: Individualism on the rise.
Individualism and right in Ashok Kumar go hand in hand. Without distributor in chief Ajitpal Singh, the team was sunk.
Re: Individualism on the rise.
I think for the past centuries, people have done a lot for the sake of their family/clan etc. whilst sacrificing their own wishes and ideas. The support they got from their family wasn't worth the sacrifice anymore and so the idea of individual happiness is becoming more and more popular
Re: Individualism on the rise.
Are the individuals more happy now?
Re: Individualism on the rise.
Maybe the increased materialism has something to do with this.
Re: Individualism on the rise.
Materialism is the cause or effect of this?
Re: Individualism on the rise.
our generation looks up at our parents experiences...and many will say that their sacrifices were not worth it as today they still talk with regrets and 'i wished i had' attitude.
this is maybe a reason of the rise of individualism

Re: Individualism on the rise.
Women have gained more freedom and rights to pursue a career and be more than a wife, bahu and mother in the home. Nowadays nuclear families are more common than joint families because there is a generation gap between the older way of thinking and the newer generation. Sometimes there is a clash between a bahu who works and wants to live her life a certain way, with a MIL who is not accustomed to seeing a working woman and has done things differently and has dealt with handling an entire home on her own. This has happened with my bhabhi and MIL and it does cause tensions. I value family and I do believe it's very important to be amongst people who love and support each other but to be honest all families are not like a bollywood movie. There are tensions and there are problems within every home. Some people simply find peace living separately to avoid all the drama while others get through it.
Everyone's tolerance for what they can or cannot handle is different.
