Individual or Society who to blame...?

Just wondering which school guppies tend to belong to regarding this argument…

Often when crimes are committed media concentrates on the individual…it is the individual who bad…he is a selfish man for stealing…he is an evil man for mudrering…

Now…the other argument is that society is what produces these individuals…these irrational heroin addicts are a creation of society etc etc…burglaries are committed because of poor job opportunities…he murdered becuase he was dis-satisfied with life around him…

Do people tend to blame society for producing criminals or blame criminals themsleves?..

Re: Individual or Society who to blame…?

I do think the media has a big role in how crimes are perceived in the publics’ eyes…for eg) when a woman drowns her child in the bathtub or runs over her cheating husband (both have actually happened), then every1’s immediate response is that she is mentally unstable…it’s not really her fault but she shud be punished or held in a mental institute…and if some1 murders a cornershop owner in the midst of a robbery, then he is an inhumane, horrible person…but then there r times when one race/society/culture attacks another just based on the fact that the criminals were from their same race, religion, etc (like with recent terror attacks)…so i think it just depends on wot the crime is and where it occurs…and sometimes the wrong ppl get convicted and sometimes a whole race has to suffer the consequences of one individual…
