India's Opening Ordeal

I just fail to comprehend the rationale of these sub-coontinent think tanks. Why is India all of a sudden trying different combinations for an opener and that too in such a hyped and important series agianst Australia. Weren’t they thinking ahead?. Why are they trying Yuvi instead of Chopra?. I mean common guys, this is NOT the time to do trials for your opening issues. Chopra did pretty well in the last test series against the Aussies and he seems to have everything CORRECT about him as far as technique goes. So why not continue with him?

well what did chopra do in the 1st test india have to find some1 whoz is specialist seems like most of the indians player have granted their places i think parthiv would be better to open bcz he was good against Pak last time he opened

^
good against pak means he will be good against aussies too????

what sort of standards r these????

but c'mon yaar didn't u c his resistance in the first 2test matches against aussie he was far better than hameed r farhat at occupaying the crease that's y

Chopra is a strokeless wonder. His utility on Indian pitches (to blunt fast bowlers in their opening spell) is limited.

That said, I am not sure why guys like Sadgopan Ramesh and SS Das are being totally ignored.

SS Das did reasonably well in the limited chances he got. Ramesh was the third opener in the Australia tour. Did well in the side matches. But after the tour , he was totally fogotten.

As for Parthiv Patel, I think its better to have a specialist batsman than him. He does not do any real wicket-keeping anyway.

Akash Chopra :smack: The guy has no clue to bat. All he does is defend. I have never seen him play any type of stroke. All he does is defense. And when he misses the ball…he is usually out LBW.

Compare to yester-years the endurance and time given to the openners
is limited to couple of macthes only. Before it was Win or Loose keep playing them untill they get a hang of it. Same with # 3 and 4 spots.

He plays to take the shine off the ball, not to score runs and thats a wrong approach. IMO, Yuvraj and Sehwag could be ideal openers for them.Yes its true that Yuvraj is not an opener by style but was Langer one?

Chopra could'nt open for Pakistan and thats saying a lot.
Yuvraj does'nt have the technique to open a test either I don't think. If I were Indian, I would probably call for Ganguly to open. But considering he is well past his prime as a batsman, it might not be the best move.

you mean open AGAINST Pakistan right?

I think the title of the thread should have been Indias batting ordeal rather than opening ordeal.

Their batting is close now a days to being as brittle as ours. What happened to the strongest batting line up in the world, who only a few months ago was giving the Aussies the run for their money and that also in Aus. They look a shadow of themselves. Shewag who after scoring that magnificient 300 against Pakistan should have been looking to rub shoulders with the likes of Tendulkar and Dravid is more in the company of afridi, batting wise. Where did it all go wrong?

Months before the start of the current test series, Ganguly had decided that Yuvraj will open along with Sehwag.
Sehwag disliked the idea for an equally aggressive opener and wanted someone who can keep his wicket intact while Sehwag does the scoring.

I am not sure what they are trying to pull off with Yuvraj opening the inning but its not working.
Sehwag and Chopra combonition is the best in their disposal.

i would go for parthiv and sehwag i mean chopra once again failed even on indian picthes guyz is a joke has taken his place for granted

well guys, u cant blame chopra for that...aussies bowling attack is just too good for him (or as a matter of fact, for any indian)...see what happened to the indian GOD (who came back after a long vacation)...

No I mean that he's not a good enough player to open for our team, i.e. The quality of our batsmen is generally considered to be worse than the Indians, but Chopra certainly does'nt measure up.
