**1-UP and 2-DN, The Kalka Mail began operation in 1866 between Delhi and Calcutta and then, starting in 1891, from Kalka to Calcutta. The train was the principal mechanism for British civil servants to move from the capital, Calcutta, to the summer capital in Simla. Run by the East Indian Railway Company, the train was originally known as the “East Indian Railway Mail”.
NOW, it’s called 12311 Howrah-Delhi-Kalka Mail and 12312 Kalka-Delhi_Howrah Mail and runs Daily. This is the oldest running train on Indian Railways. It has lost it’s luster after the introduction of Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto Superfast Trains, but it is still one of the most pretigious trains of India from the British Raj. It’s also one of the longest train [26 coaches].**** here are some pictures and videos:**
