India's gains from this world cup....

First of all Yuvraj could give a befitting reply to his critics.I have always been his supporter and I was becoming increasingly impatient at people who wanted his sacking from the team. I knew Yuvi would come back and do a marvelous job for India like he has done many times before. One interesting aspect is that Yuvi has emerged as a full time bowler who can give breakthroughs just when India need it.Kohli ,the new blood ,Raina who was sided for no reason(or for Yousaf Pathan) has made a tremendous impression .He is one of the best fielders India has ever got. Sehwag continued to fire but failed at times ,may be because of the kind of pressure he was facing due to the public anticipation,Sachin has made it finally(A world cup dream) now nothing more to achieve!! .Zaheer Khan is the only bowler India can rely on at the moment.Dhon proved he could come back to his form when it was most needed and also showed that he is brave enough to handle pressure. So the title Mr.Cool is apt for him.

What India has learnt from this tournament is ,how to handle the pressure effectively ,play a professional game infront of very large crowd that consists of elites belonging to different arenas and the meaning of professionalism. Also it has learnt how to give a suitable farewell to those who retire…

Sachin was awarded with one of the most memorable moments in his life.

Murali, with due respect, though he was not given a chance to celebrate his team’s winning moments.

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

Most important thing India got out of this world cup is Guaranteed success of IPL-3 which could have been in trouble had India lost in QTR and Semi...

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

I literally puke when I hear abt IPL...

It involves just money laundering and legalised prostitution.

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

man even i hate IPL

y would anyone want to watch that garbage after this huge moments in indian cricket history.

i think most of them won't even participate except for the retired cricketers :P

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

IPL is one of the worst things perpetrated on cricket and Indians. It brought out the WORST in India in so many respects - Corruption at every level, scandalous behavior, copy-cat pseudo-culture, crass commercialism, near-acceptance of decadence...EVEN reinstatement of colonialists AND terrorists in closet from around the world! (you people will PUKE if you knew all the hidden share owners of some of the teams, besides the bollywood bimbos and playboy billionaires)

It represents the culmination of everything ancient India represents and rejects most so called Indian values.

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

you know what...keep hating IPL but in the end, this enhanced professionalism, improved fielding, playing under pressure, mental strength, managing public expectations….all the qualities that you mentioned above in your post has something to do with IPL...where else young Indian players like ashwin would get a chance to be trained in such tough conditions with world class players? I don’t care about legalized prostitution and money laundering and whatnot…in the end I think IPL has more pros than cons for the future Indian cricket…

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

^ You are right about formats such as IPL helping with mental toughness and professionalism - but the organization of the business and the people associated with that organization, and the rackateering that has been blessed in the process is what atleast I am disgusted about.

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

I do not know what mental strength has IPL provided to Indian players/or any player over come pressure in close/Non close matches?
Literally nothing. Each match is different.I an tell you one thing that IPL results are fixed.

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

*i think the game of cricket in the new format and in modern times is both a blessing and a curse. blessing because this injects better breed of players into the game while a curse because it the ludicrous amount of money that is involved leads to all kinds of corruption in the game. i LOVE the old ways! :) *

Re: India’s gains from this world cup…

IPL

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

Time will tell as Tendulkar, Sehwag, Zaheer and Yuvraj who led India throughout the tournament aren't getting any younger. Their performance and fitness will go down from here so, it will be interesting to see who will take their place. One thing is for sure, India will not enjoy the kinds of dominance Australia had from '03-'07. There are many teams who can beat India or are close to their league.

Re: India’s gains from this world cup…

Absolutely with you on this one :k:

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

IPL has nothing to do with India's win here.

None of the guys who proved decisive most of the time ( read: Sachin, Swhwag, Youvraj, Zaheer, Ghambir etc) are IPL find. These all are senior players.

To me Dhoni's captaincy and CONSISTENCY in selection & captaincy has paid off for India. Everyone knows his role in the team. If team captain's is nominated couple of days before the departure for WC, its almost a miracle that team played a semi. When captain has some set of player for long time, he has time to chalk out his strategy and know +ive/-ives of each player to take decision accordingly.

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

and that proves that Afridi is a real leader who got the most out of the Pakistan 11. Unfortunately PCB is no where even near BCCI. If the Pak govt wants to save cricket in Pakistan, they should dismantle PCB, make the academy in charge and give its charge to a leader like Imran. Tell imran to set up the system and find the right person to lead the board while he does that. If govt goes to Imran and asks him personally he should accept it as a project.

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

India's gain from this World Cup is just the World Cup and time will prove that in coming days. :)

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

Agree with you on the senior players not being IPL finds, but the increased professionalism, better fielding, better bowling in death overs, Ashwin, Raina's re-emergence, Munaf's tight bowling, ability to chase scores under pressure can all be attributed to IPL.

Re: India’s gains from this world cup…

Lets agree to disagree then. I think working as a unit for long time has worked for India and not IPL. If IPL was the main factor, I wonder why likes of Pollard, David Hussey etc failed :hmmm:

Re: India’s gains from this world cup…

One of the goals of IPL was to promote Indian players by giving them better experience than what Ranji trophy would give. Thats the reason there are only 4 foreign players per team.

So the benefits Indian players like Ashwin have derived from IPL are different from what extablished star players like Hussey or Pollard would get.

I dont disagree that playing together as a unit for a long time has helped, but IPL has helped too.

Re: India's gains from this world cup....

lots of politicians and government officials dropped their jobs to come watch the game - India benefited from that much less damage they would otherwise have caused if they did their jobs.
