Aside from the topic....but it is a fact that "intellectuals" are a sad lot (Not to say that I am an intellectual - just wanted to clarify that).
A quote attributed to a German poet says - " He is the happiest who is ignorant and has a job". This is 100% true. I have seen it with my friends. People who don't keep track of world events or analyze them and are happy with their own little world - job promotion, new home, new car, new ipod/iphone etc....
Just like the audience of Govinda's movies - who may not be rich but they are happier than Gulzar's or Satyajit Ray's audience.

i have a different take on the matter. Keats said, a thing of beauty is a joy for ever. Indians are beautiful, hence there is a lot of joy going around. forever.
outsiders often mistake this as being gay though.

^ Yep...last year while driving home from Mumbai Airport (had landed in India after 2 years)...I was struck by how many men I saw on the street who had their arms around each other's shoulders.
I have lived in India for majority of my life...yet this never stood out as it did that night.
Certainly there is lot of "unhindered joy" to go around....or simply "queerness".

Do u want that or u dont want. I will tell you exactly what you think. U r lowering ur expectation based on certain knowledge of some stats and the strength of the teams. In ur heart u feel India should win. If India win you will be happy but not as much as other Indians would be, because u feel the next hurdle is around the corner. If India loose you will be sad, but the difference is you will be sad as much as other Indians would be. So why this veil around you. U r ambitious man some1. Those who are ambitious always have this problem.

I don’t like any imperfection in the system. Therefore I am more prone to stress, frustration and sadness.
I wish I was Lallu Yadav. The world would laugh at me but at least I would be HAPPY.
Philosophy is good, Happiness is BETTER.

some1, in my undergrad group we had a dukhi philosopher like you. one night after a couple of Olk Monks had been smashed, a few of us slapped him with our chappals until he promised to be happy. he embraced his cheery fate. we call him Smiley ever since.

I agree that this guy is a jerk for taking the video and putting it on youtube for the whole world to see but some times you nonABCDs tend to be a bit mean to us ABDs(few a threads ago concerning sikhs and parsis:emmy:)

I didn’t say that, did you even read the study that was posted in the beginning of the thread:rolleyes:?? The fact that Indian youth growing up in India is more status oriented is the result of the study that was conducted.
Don’t use this as an opportunity to be racist…
