Indian story of ant and grasshopper-- Modern version V/s Old version

Found it in e-mail..interesting for those who know something about Indian political system and media!

Perhaps an old one. But still worth a read:

OLD VERSION…

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer
long building his house and
laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper
thinks the ant’s a fool and
laughs & dances & plays the summer away. Come winter,
the ant is warm and well fed.
The grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies
out in the cold.

MODERN VERSION…

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer
long, building his house and
laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper
thinks the ant’s a fool and
laughs & dances & plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press
**conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be **
warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the
shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a
table filled with food.
The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor
grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the ant’s house.
Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other grasshoppers demanding that grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter.

Amnesty International and UN secretary general criticize the Indian Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the grasshopper.

The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the grasshopper
(many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the
wrath of God for non-compliance) ..

Opposition MP’s stage a walkout

Left parties call for “Bharat Bandh” strike in West Bengal
and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.

CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among ants and grasshoppers.

Lalu Prasad allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway
Trains, aptly named as the ‘Grasshopper Rath’.

Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the Prevention of Terrorism Against
Grasshoppers Act [POTAGA]", with effect from the beginning of the winter.

Arjun Singh makes Special Reservation for Grass Hopper in educational
Insititutions & in Govt Services.

The ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA
and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by
the Government and handed over to the grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.

Arundhati Roy calls it “a triumph of justice”.

Lalu calls it ‘Socialistic Justice’.

CPM calls it the “revolutionary resurgence of the downtrodden” .

UN secretary invites the grasshopper to address the UN
General Assembly.

MANY YEARS LATER…

The ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi billion dollar company in silicon valley.100s of grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere in India…

lol

Re: Indian story of ant and grasshopper-- Modern version V/s Old version

Maybe you forgot to tell the discrimination that the grasshoppers face all their life because of their birth.

Every hour 2 Dalits are assaulted,
• Every day 3 Dalit women are raped,
• Every day 2 Dalits are murdered & 2 Dalits Houses are burnt in India.

(Report of Ministry of Welfare of the Govt. of India 1992-1993)

In 1999, 135771 cases were reported, 137492 cases in 2000 and 125152 last year, Over 28,000 incidents of crime against SC/ST in 2005 as per the data compiled by National Crimes Record Bureau [From ambedkar.org]

^ ^ ^
zxcvb.....chill yaar...it's not intended for a political debate...all of us know what problems our nation is facing...but do we care to suggest a solution..and of course reservation was, is and will never be a solution!!

Re: Indian story of ant and grasshopper-- Modern version V/s Old version

good story!

Re: Indian story of ant and grasshopper-- Modern version V/s Old version

The only people who claim that reservation is not working are the brahmin & other "upper castes".
To the rest of the population, it works perfectly fine.

Re: Indian story of ant and grasshopper-- Modern version V/s Old version

Oh sure they are working fine...after 60 friggin years of independence, it has worked so good that we are having to increase reservation instead of taking it away which was the original plan.

Don't talk about a subject you have no clue about.

btw, sorry for digressing from the thread topic...

Re: Indian story of ant and grasshopper-- Modern version V/s Old version

Guys it's just a story chill.

Re: Indian story of ant and grasshopper-- Modern version V/s Old version

Yes, its just a story but a very relevant one to the current time.

Its about the right to pursue happiness by people who are willing to work for it. Desis often make it seem that there is virtue in poverty and poor people somehow occupy a higher moral ground.

Generalizing on either side is WRONG.

Re: Indian story of ant and grasshopper-- Modern version V/s Old version

^true! I agree, it was just that some people were taking it too seriously.

Re: Indian story of ant and grasshopper-- Modern version V/s Old version

who told you that. dont believe the bs dalitstan spit out. There is enough oppertunities in india to make a dalit get to be the president or a supreme court chief justice. If most of them dont work or dont want to get out of their way of life then who can be blamed. They themselves have to decide to make a difference.

Re: Indian story of ant and grasshopper-- Modern version V/s Old version

a typical mindset!!

and you thought reservation is actually working for those poor dalits!!...vote bank addicted politicians like Arjun Singh are surviving only because of "learned" supporters like you...

Have you got education in India?...have you experienced which type of "dalits" are producing OBC, SC or NT certificates along with "non-creamy layer" certificate to secure a seat in Medical or Engineering institutions, while other eligible candidates are just in waiting list simply because they can't produce such certificates!
If you haven't, then better go and have a look at any institution in India and find by yourself, which type of "poor" people are getting benefit of reservation..at least you will realize your so called "lower castes" are "poor" only on certificates!
