The body of noted Muslim scholar Syed Shahabuddin’s only son Nayyar Pervez Shahabuddin, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the United States, will be flown in here on Monday morning.
Pervez, 43, a professor of Engineering in the Columbia University, New York was found dead in a hotel in the city on November 17. The family called the police after he did not arrive home in the evening from his place of work.
‘‘Police are investigating the case and the Ambasador of India to United States Ronen Sen is in consultation with Mr Shahabuddin in this connection,’’ a family member said.
Pervez’s body will be brought to Mr Shahabuddin’s residence in Block 15 of the East End Apartment in Mayur Vihar here and Namaz-e-janaza will be offerred at 1100 hrs. Thereafter, the body will be taken to Panj Peeran in basti Nizamuddin for burial which will take place at 1330 hrs.
The deceased is survived by wife Sophia, son Zain and daughter Zoha.
Syed Shahabuddin, a former Member of Parliament, is the president of All India Muslim Majlis-Mushawarrat. Pervez, the only son of Syed Shahabuddin (ex-Member of Parliament & President, All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat), was 43 years old and had been teaching at the Ivy League University’s Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research since 1995. A graduate of IIT Delhi and Stanford University, Pervez was given the 2004 Great Teacher Award given by the Society of Columbia Graduates in “recognition of your students and your peers as a dedicated and inspired undergraduate teacher and mentor.”
