Now, fearful players might have been scarred by the experience, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has turned to professional help.

BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya said India, who leave for the tournament on Wednesday, will hold sessions with South African sports psychologist Sandy Gordon during their 12-day preparatory camp.

“It’s a good idea to get a psychologist to pep up the boys,” Dalmiya said.

“We deliberated on the lessons learnt from the Kiwi trip and what could be expected in South Africa.”

Dalmiya held a long meeting on Sunday with captain Sourav Ganguly, coach John Wright and the team physiotherapist and trainer to analyse the New Zealand tour and discuss the World Cup.

Players’ wives and girlfriends will be barred from joining them until they reach the second round, Dalmiya said.

Meanwhile, India’s players have all cleared the internal drug tests they consented to while in New Zealand.

There will be a mandatory test at the World Cup - the first of its kind in cricket - but India wanted to ensure there was not an incident in South Africa.

that is exactly what they need. no matter how hard they try, they won't win WC. watch out India, Pakistan is comming your way...
