there is tremendous oppurtuinty in nusrsing field . ageing population
creates drives the demand for nurses.also jobs in other fields are declining.
nurses are also H1-B i think.. so would the total cap be raised?
Nurses are not on H1 visa. They have a special category of visa. I guess they get Greencard on fast track basis. As more and more people are getting old and older generation is dependent on Nursing homes there is indeed great demand for them.
In California I see atleast 50% of nurses are from Philiphines.
Just to point out that Nurses are given H-1A visa, which is different from the commonly known H-1B visa for highly skilled professionals.
Theres a severe shortage of nurses in California currently; they say its almost a crisis situation. Apparently local colleges aren't producing the required number.

How about nursing as a career in Pakistan ? Can female nurses take care of male patients or vice versa ?
Rifak yes they can, same goes for physicians. In some cases though women want to have a female doc and staff.
