Indian Muslims make a stand against Terror

And again, you apparently can't comprehend written English.

I said I did what other New Yorkers did after 9/11, and that I never felt obligated to participate in any special, Muslim-only protests to "dissociate" myself from the terrorists.

Try understand what people are saying before hitting the reply button.

Re: Indian Muslims make a stand against Terror

Ohhhhhhh....I wont say much...I am an Indian and a Muslim....:)..that came out wrong, I am MUSLIM first, then INDIAN:)

I will write it tomo...:p

Indian FM says the investigation hasn't been completed yet. Please don't label them until investigation is complete. Wouldn't want you to have to retract what you said, should they turn out to be non-muslims (again!!)

Generalization! Terrorism knows no religion. Timothy McVeigh, Hitler, Jewish fundamentalists during British rule and so on....History's full of such examples. And yes ofcourse then there's RSS (which has not been banned in World's biggest democracy).

:)

Re: Indian Muslims make a stand against Terror

The actions by Indian Muslims should open eyes of Pakistanis who are having wet dreams of taking over India. First make Pakistan a good example then talk about it, our so called atomic pride is more harm then good for us.

Whole world is pointing out fingers on us and its only us who is still living in the state of denial and i fear we will continue to do so. Pathetic !

Pray tell me what you did after 9/11 ? Did you participate in any peace marches, candle light vigils etc like "other New Yorkers did"?

Frankly, I don't see how its any of your business, but yes I did.

For the third time (it sounds like maybe starting to understand, but I'm hardly getting my hopes up): I did not feel obligated to make any overt efforts to "dissociate" myself from any terrorists. I did not feel the need to "condemn" the attacks more than anyone else because I happen to be Muslim. But, like I said before, I suppose that's just the difference between India and the US.

Oh sure, and why they were hate crimes in US, even attacking Sikh people.

naah you will elect them as your leaders. Remember Modi, the more muslims he murdered the more votes he got. Indian democracy and secularism at its best.

Gujarat is not India and India is not Gujarat.
Its a small part of a country electing 25 MPs.

I agree its none of my business, but relevant to the debate at hand. You did not feel obligated to make any overt efforts and you did not. That was your choice. However, why do you think that all Muslims are like you ? No one forced the Indian Muslims and the only reason they felt "obligated" was due to their own sense of right & wrong. Something I do not expect you to understand.

And finally, try to be polite and show that you as civilized as you make yourself out to be.

Who said the US is completely perfect?

There were isolated hate crimes, and in most cases, the offenders were duly prosecuted. The police and other state agencies also made every effort to protect American Muslims after 9/11 (rather than joining in the rioting and murder as they have in India in the past). Despite the fact that, in terms of death tolls, the 9/11 attacks were nearly 60 times worse than the Godhra cooking fire accident, and nearly 20 times worse than the recent Mumbai attacks, I have yet to hear of any bold faced bigotry comparable to what's going on in Surat today (which none of the Indian posters have condemned so far BTW).

At the end of the day, I felt far safer walking around Manhattan on 9/12/01 than I ever have in New Delhi or Bombay.

Who made you the spokesman for "Indian Muslims?"

For the umpteenth time, there's no dearth of Indian Muslim voices...in opeds, media statements, and what have you...expressing a certain level of disgust at the implicit bigotry in Indian society that obligates them to continually jump through all sorts of hoops in an effort to dissociate themselves with terrorism. You can argue all you want about how, as the self-appointed spokesman for "Indian Muslims" you have determined that they don't feel any societal obligation to do so...but the fact remains that many have openly expressed that they feel put upon.

I am not their spokesman, but I empathize with Indians who want to take a stand and stand up for whats right. Disgruntled individuals like you will alway attribute it to societal pressures without understanding that not all Indian Muslims want to be independent.

Neither am I saying INdia is perfect. The history of US and India is different.
US did not have to go through a bloody partition based on religion.
If we take out the biased outlook in Godhra then there is nothing worthwhile in your post. The bigotry that you say is happening in Surat is not an Indian govts policy. If there is anything like that happening it should be stopped. I hope social service s and other people in the area raise this issue with the right authorities and get it cleared.
But you cannot take an isolated incident like this happening in a very communal sensitive Gujarat and brand it as in Indian phenomena.

Some people in bordering countries (esp. Pakistan) have a mis-belief that “Indian Muslims favor Pakistan more than they favor India”. “Some terrorists believe that the Indian Muslims are on their side”, Some even believe that most Indian Muslims will fight for Pakistan in case of a war between India and Pakistan.

The gesture was not to show rest of India that they are patriotic, rather it was to tell the enemies of the nation that DO NOT TAKE US FOR GRANTED. WE ARE INDIANS and THAT IF YOU LOOK AT OUR COUNTRY WITH BAD INTENTIONS THEN WE WILL TAKE OUR YOUR EYE BALLS (and play gotian).

The Indians already knew of the patriotism of all Indians, the effort was to convey this to the other nations that they do not get into a misadventure and eventually hurt themselves.

Re: Indian Muslims make a stand against Terror

Why is it so that the 'indian muslims' have to 'prove' their loyalty to the country?

Even SRK's loyalty to the country is suspect these days!

As I told before, but you probably did not care to read, that Islamic terrorist think that Indian Muslims will favor them and so the Indian Muslims wanted to make a point that NO WE DO NOT FAVOR YOU, WE ARE ON THE SIDE OF INDIA AND THE Muslims all over the world hear this loud and clear. This should be an eye opener to all Pakistani's who believe that Indian Muslims will fight for them in case of a war.

Exactly my point. Indian Muslims have to say LOUD AND CLEAR that they are loyal to India, otherwise their loyalty is suspect. It is not the Pakistanis who think that Indian Muslims are not loyal to their country but it is the Indians who are suspicious of their loyalty.

I also believe that most of the Muslims think that 'Islamic terrorists' is a misnomer. They are as unislamic as one can be.

What Exactly your point, I did not understand which one of my point is exactly yours too. I said the Indian Muslims have to get this information to the Pakistanis that we are not on their side, rather we are on the Indian side. Again, they are trying to tell it to Pakistan and the terrorists.

If thats your thinking then I am glad you think like that.

The only difference between what I am saying and you are saying is this:

YOU:

I said the Indian Muslims have to get this information to the Pakistanis that we are not on their side

ME:

Indian Muslims HAVE to get this information to the INDIANS that we are not on PAKISTANI side

Re: Indian Muslims make a stand against Terror

SRK gave interpretation and verses from Quran regarding Jihad, obviously he cared about young muslim boys whose brains are washed in the name of religion. Iam glad that the iconic figures came forward and expressed their feelings. EVERY INDIAN, wether MUSLIM,SIKH,HINDU or CHRISTIAN made their voice loud and clear against the terror attacks, this is what we call unity in diversity, a strong secular India.
